Gruffy said:
After my Achilles blew in Italy I lost a day. Since then, any comparison with riders ahead was rendered meaningless. My delay meant I faced the Passo Giau in horrendous conditions, and then the 215kph winds in Croatia. Both have taken their toll and left me with this infection. My race against other competitors ended in Italy. Since then it's become a personal battle.

I signed up because I wanted to test myself. I like to think I'm tough and this was a way to actually know what I'm made of. In that respect I'm glad my own race has been so brutal. Many, many times I've been tempted to scratch. My body scratched in Italy. My head is a stubborn bd though.

I WILL finish this race. I WILL finish in time for the party. I will also have raised a boat load of cash for Cancer Research. And I will reach Turkey knowing a whole lot more about myself.
clap

But look after yourself doing it please

KAcensoredBOOM!

Yesterdays ride has to be up there in the realms of epicness;

243 miles in 15hours 55minutes with 10,285ft ascents averaging 15.3mph.

It look like he was knocking on the Greek Border before he stopped!

Wow! Wish I could ride 243 miles in a day at all, let alone feeling like dogst bow

My admiration grows by the day.

Guessing from the messages on twitter, someone who wrote Darren's weather app needs to learn how to predict wind. Its predicted westerly's but its sounds like he has a cross head wind.

He's determined to make the part though! Said we should all buy him a beer smile

Is it just me, or does it look like the rest of Gruffy's route to the finish has minimal (in context) climbing?

I think it's more like 400-500kms actually (see freeroute/googlemaps) - still pretty damn close though!

Assuming you;ve read that from teh spot tracker I've been looking at that today as it's showing in kms but is more like miles!

But the speed is in kms!

OK guys a message to you all from Olga (aka mrs gruffy);

Ok pips, just spoke to Darren, he is only 370kms away from the finish!

Ignore freeroute, he's got a better plan!

That means we have less than 24 hours to raise £1,150 that Darren needs to hit his £10,000 target.

After all he is going to hit his target of arriving in time for the party!

So here is how we are going to do it smile

We are auctioning "e-vouchers" for a celebratory dinner cooked by Darren and sous-chefed by me.

Those who know Darren's cooking, should be easily convinced!

Qualifying donations are £50 per course for 2 people and we will cook as many courses for you as you can stretch to smile

Dig deep!

(pls do continue with the £5 at 5pm and £10 at 10pm too smile)

And not content with just finishing, he's now decided to race a plane carrying Mrs Gruffy from London! Kristoff raced the transcon car so he had to go 1 better!
