Does anyone tour on a Brompton?
I have often thought it is the ideal bike for it.
I haven’t toured on a Brompton but did do a few long days fully loaded with luggage. They make great tourers provided you manage your expectations. Wouldn’t recommend for overly mountainous areas, or if you’re on a tight schedule but if you’re happy to take your time, keep to 25/30 mile days and admire the scenery they’re brilliant for it.I have often thought it is the ideal bike for it.
Wouldn't be without mine.
For a Sunday pleasure ride in the hills I'll take the road or cross bike anyday but the Brompton has to be the most versatile thing.
Mines an S2, I wanted reasonable lightness for carrying it around train stations.
I work all over the place and it's great for mixing cycling with other forms of transport, no need to book a space on the train, just chuck it in the suitcase rack.
Don't pay for an expensive car park, park a couple of miles away for free and ride in to where you need to be.
I've had it since 2011 and it must have paid for itself twice over in saved public transport fares.
In that time and many many miles it's had 2 chains and rear sprockets, some brake pads and have just killed the original set of pedals. I ride it in all weathers and it still looks nice after years of abuse, the paint is very hard, it's a quality machine.
I work in Manchester sometimes, it's faster than the tram as well as free.
Always goes in the car when going on holiday or off to a job away, opens up some exploring opportunities.
With the seat being so adjustable my 11 year old can ride it.
Never have to chain it up anywhere, it can come inside with you, just like a suitcase on the little rubber wheels.
Some slight downsides;
It does seem to take effort to make it move along at any significant speed compared to a road machine, maybe it's the schwalbe marathon tyres, but have NEVER had a puncture.
It's crap at hills and headwinds, you might say that's more to do with me but don't have any issue with those on full sized bikes.
The Brompton has it's place in my collection and would be one of the last to go if I had to have less bikes.

That is because yours is not Raw lacquer, yours is the later black lacquer, Raw lacquer is very hard to find and was a limited edition run.
Ah right makes sense. I have to say I do prefer the raw lacquer, however with my black components the black lacquer probably works a bit better. However both are classier than a solid paint finish IMHO.

Ooooo that's pretty, the lacquer seems much "clearer" than mine, which has a very dark tint by comparison...It’s about 5 years old now I think, rarely used. But nice to look at, sits on bottom shelf of Ikea bookcase in my ‘office’ (aka box room)!
It’s my only bike now.
