One of the less picturesque views around here…
…but usually ride through with PB Jnr3 and let out a big roar when he’s about halfway through
And, with apologies to Johnny, rider of this parish. I thought I’d try the ol’ leg selfie as I’m riding. I have neither the calves, socks or tats to make it a good pic…
…and can confirm it’s more difficult than it looks. Esp off road, so, to that Man with the AeroBeard!

Yes. Yes it is! 66 miles around Exmoor this morning with 8500ft of climbing. Did Dunkery Beacon (377 watts for just under 15 mins! Ouch) at about half way round after doing the climbs along the coast up from Lynmouth, then dropped down into the valley through Oare and climbed up to the top of Porlock till road.
Going down the toll road was super fun, like a mini alpine pass
Made a bit of a routing error as I thought I’d drop down from the top of Dunkery and skirt round the north side to Exford, not realising that road actually goes higher again, so did a 870ft climb straight after the 1050ft Beacon climb. Amazing scenery, but brutal terrain, none of if was flat and some of the descents were pretty tricky so hard to make up time from the climbing.
The B3223 back accross Exmoor from Simonsbath to Hillsford was fantastic, very few cars and on the way down kept up with a guy on a big BMW touring bike, felt like I was in a grand tour chasing a camera bike hehe
Spent the afternoon on Woolacombe beach, cold sea felt so good on tired legs!

I've been eyeing up this area since I got Simon Warren's book for Christmas. He did a route here that was harder than any other he did in Britain, so that must be some challenge! Going down the toll road was super fun, like a mini alpine pass

That the one half way between Blackridge and Hillend Reservoir?Ironic given you can ringing your bell like you have ADHD and are clean out of Ritalin along there and you’ll still end up having to stop whilst the groupings of farts in a trance figure out how to move to one side of the bloody path.

When I'm asked what I miss about the UK, the three things are always friends, country pubs, and the countryside - specifically Exmoor, Dartmoor and Mendips. Love these pics, would be a great ride
Over 30 years ago, my girlfriend (married a few years after we got back, still together) and I did some travelling, Malaysia, Australia, NZ, Cook Islands Tahiti LA Toronto. Part of the trip involved an overland safari from Cairns to Darwin in a big truck converted to a bus. We went through Kakadu and Katharine Gorge amongst other places. There weren't tourist boats at Katharine back then, we had to hike in and out, swam in the gorge, and we were sitting around near the bus after, all of us said if there was a rural pub with a nice garden here, that would top it off!A nice hundred, but it was mighty windy on the open heaths. I had a bit of bonus fun too. Someone ( on a bike ) thought it would be a really good idea to squeeze past me on a tight cycle path bit of the route, as I slowed down to let a lady on a bike with panniers past, then ride ( a lot ) slower than I was. That was monumentally stupid, but easily dealt with I think this was only the second imperial ton I’ve done this year, and the first on this bike, this year.
Just a little loop this afternoon, but with plenty of hills comes plenty of views
In this pic, both the National Botanical Gardens' dome to the left, just a subtle curve from here and to the right, Paxton's Tower - a folly built to impress Lord Nelson:
Then, literally 20m on over the top of the hill and towards other side of the road, a great view across the Towy valley:
Nearer home, a lovely little Dodge A100 parked up outside a local garage - had a chat with the garage bloke, it's a '64 with the IL6; seems the owner has plans for making it more usable day-to-day and maybe faster - sounds like it's in good hands
Really enjoyed this ride... no rushing, taking time to take in views, stopping for a chat, still got up the big hill to my house with a PR on Strava

As an ex-Round Tabler, I got involved in helping raise some money for the young lady in the photo centre.
A sponsored ‘cycle ride’ from Chester to Birmingham and back.
The group spilt into a static and road rides, the latter of which I lead a group of 5 around a 25 mile route. A couple of the guys hadn’t done that distance recently…
Our collective efforts paid off, £635 for four hours effort (the road group finished inside 2 hours I hasten to add…).

Good stuff - I used to do lots of sponsored rides in my teens, was always fun. MrsPB works for a charity and one of their events is a sponsored endurance ride around Eastern Creek racetrack here in Sydney - usually over 6 or 12 hours - will get into that later this year.A sponsored ‘cycle ride’ from Chester to Birmingham and back.

As for today - young bloke and his mate checking out the lines, Danny MacAskill style…

(I haven't lived there since 1998. I miss the beach. )
