The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread
Discussion
Nice piece of British quality engineering and it's 1/8" so perfect for the Fort bike.
T. D. Cross and Sons was founded in 1870 in Birmingham, concentrating in the production of bicycle components under the direction of the Cross family. They developed into production of a popular range of roller chain sprockets and gearing. The competitive pricing and quality of product soon established the company as a major supplier to both Agricultural and Industrial markets.
T. D. Cross and Sons sadly closed the doors in 1982
The Sachs-Maillard 7 speed close ratio blockl. These things sell for silly money on the bay of flees
And I now have a proper seatpost bolt fitted to the Fort instead of the wingnut someone decided to fit
A couple of chain links for the Fort Nice to see Made in England stamped on parts
I love the Ultegra 6600 groupset, one of Shimano's best ever, a spare for my 853 bike
All the above and change from a £20 note

Seriously considering one of these for the missus: http://www.merlincycles.com/beone-crd-race-alloy-2...
Anyone got any other suggestions, no more than £400?

That looks really nice. I'd be interested to hear how it come up size wise, particularly arm and body length wise.
I take a small in everything and this is a race fit small, I guess a bit like Castelli sizing. The arms however are plenty long so no issues there.Wore it today to the Scottish Bike Show at the velodrome and was stopped at least a dozen times by people asking me about it, every one of them wanted one and wanted to know where I got it from

So, I haven't fitted the front tyre yet, and the brakes are due in the shop tomorrow, but as requested:I've just bought an Urge Down o matic Lid - the veggie one. Half price at CRC - first impressions are that it's very nice - not had chance to use it yet. Bit overkill for XC in the woods...
Looks a very nice lid, after yesterdays ride I'm contemplating in getting a FF for practice on the stuff I have no confidence on and for jump practice. I'm a real scaredy cat having been injured previously (and still as I never made a full recovery) and no longer get free dental treatment!

Having gone full OTB at the top of ZigZag at Cannock I am tempted by full face but more importantly I need better riding glasses my only real injury is where my glasses dug into my forehead, not helped by the fact all the rubber came away from them a good year or so ago.Engineer1 said:

Thank you - and snap, I got mine from CRC half price! I'm giving mine it's inagural test run at bike park wales the weekend after easter! I can't decide on keeping the ASR now I've lashed out on some bits, or get a carbon nomad (second hand, the new one is sexy but I'm not dropping £5600 on a push bike). The thing is, that ASR is bloody fantastic at pretty much everything! The front end is very floaty on super steep technical climbs that go on for a while (they are quite a long top tube, and with the short stem it does want to lift the front quite quickly). It's really poppy off any jumps, rips the single track descents, and is comfortable when putting a 4 or 5 hour stint in - I think that a lot of versatility these days comes in the shape of dropper seat posts though!!! I would be over biked locally on a carbon Nomad, BUT with either a CCDB air / Monarch plus it could be my ultimate do it all bike (and I've had the ASR for 2 years and fancy a change).I've just bought an Urge Down o matic Lid - the veggie one. It will make someone a bargain second hand bike if I sell it with all the bits (especially once the new brakes are on it).
I couldn't sell that having done all the upgrade work on it - it really does look and sound like a lovely bit of kit.
My bike is an AM affair - but with 170mm up front, the front wheel is off the ground on the really steep climbs - but it does have to be really steep stuff for that to happen.
Its the only in it's armour - and it more than makes up for the lack of climbing ability on the way back down where it smashes over everything.
Anyway - getting up is just a necessary evil for coming back down again.

Took me a while there to figure out what you were trying to say before realising the swear filter had got the better of you. I've mentioned this before, elsewhere on the forum. It's weird that I cannot refer to a of light, or a in some armour, yet Jeremy Clarkson could sign up and talk about slopes on bridges all day long
