Good to be back on the bike this morning - bit hairy coming through Mottingham with the crosswinds though!

just a little rant to get it off my chest...9mile ride to work as usual,
about to turn right...road with a huge painted Right Arrow...on coming Aston decides to igonore the road markings.....leaving me feeling rather exposed...
As the video continues i have a nice shot of him with one hand on the steering wheel through his side window as he just misses my front wheel..

but on the bright side it was a nice sunny fresh morning ride in...
Paul...

RANT OVER...
I wouldn't take it personally, I have a similar turn myself and even when I'm in my car oncoming cars still cut the corner. In fact it happened this morning.

Despite the weather I really wasn't in the mood this morning for some reason. Set my mind to potter in at a gentle pace. Then, for some reason, all the lights went in my favour, the wind died down, and I set a corking pace without really trying!

Note to self - less effort = more reward.

Schools have broken up, so roads were much clearer, It was quieter in the lanes and St. Albans town center.

Tiny set of roadworks at the bottom of the hill in St. Albans. There was a short que of traffic. Hopefully they will be finished by the time the schools go back.

I was little chilly at the start of the ride, but I was warm enough by St. Albans. Glad I wore the overshoes and the liner gloves, other than that, the clothing I had was just right for the conditions. I should be able to loose the line gloves and buff for the ride home.

There is a funny rattle coming from the one of the wheels. I'm hooping that it isn't a loose spoke. The bike hasn't even done 400 miles yet.

I didn't bother with the GoPro today. Its at home being used a dog monitoring tool smile

Rode in for the second time of 2014 this morning. Felt much better than last week yet according to my Garmin slightly slower overall time despite not stopping to vomit this week. Goes to show the difference a headwind makes.

I've just started a new job, so today was my first ride to and from work. Pleasantly surprised to find the bike still there when I finished work!

And no-one tried to kill me, which was nice.

Agreed.

But don't take it personally. They're not out to get you. They just don't know what they're missing.

Hello,
I am carrying a fair belly though!
add a hill!
Maybe in a few weeks! smile

Thanks for the suggestion, I will check that out.
If you take the hill route, maybe the belly will be gone sooner!

Roehampton lane is a large, wide bus-lane going down-hill, and Castleneau (up to Hammersmith bridge) has one going Northbound too, so heading to work you're fairly well provided for. There are some (complex) cycle-crossings and shared use pavements north of Hammersmith Brdige which should be able to let you get towards Chiswick without needing to go around the one way system (not pleasant at the best of times).
Hello,

I followed your advice on the ride home on Friday (about Hammersmith, not Mount Roehampton!) and it was much more pleasant. At Wandsworth I got lucky with the lights and managed a "sprint" across all 4 lanes before any cars caught me. The last 1/2 mile to my house is uphill and I was really peching.

This morning, I took the underpasses / riverside pavement route again at Hammersmith, which was fine. Overall, the ride was 3 min quicker than Friday, mainly becuase the first few miles (Carshalton to Mitcham where there's no cycle lane) were much quieter. Still, got it under an hour for 22.6km which I'm happy with for now..... let's see how much energy I've got tonight!

First time back on the bike this morning after a break for a few weeks, highlight was someone on a hybrid coming past me about half way into my ride but I was struggling at that point. Did a little experiment with cutting out to the right and going past the traffic at lights rather than just sitting behind it (I don't undertake), was ok but a bit weird.

Coming home last night, someone on a Pinarello Dogma2 in Sky colours, with beautiful Cosmic rims, dressed in Rapha gear, elbowed his way to the front of the queue at Putney bridge traffic lights, then jumped the lights as soon as there was a gap and headed off down the Lower Richmond Road.

I took great pleasure in catching and passing him half a mile down the road, as I'm sure did the group of four other guys around me. I don't have a problem with someone having a smart bike (other than base jealousy) but it's a real shame when they're a twunt.

They usually spit the dummy when you pass them as well.

Not especially looking forward to the ride home. More so as I've agreed to go on a long walk with the missus after.

At least you've made my afternoon... I'm right underneath the red arrow in the north east (Aberdeen) and my route home is pointing in the same direction biggrin

A colleague just came up to me and proactively mentioned that he had located a shower hidden away in the bowels of our building.

Evidently my post-commute personal hygiene routine has not been as successful as I had dared to hope...
