Actual photographs, actually taken today - just for a change!
This was in the North Wessex Downs AONB, and the temptation to push further west was difficult to resist. But I'll save that for another time.
My regular stomping ground, let us know if you fancy a route out around this way, can show you some lovely spots if you fancy driving down and setting off from here. (MTN bike or Road but none of this 100 mile nonesense). This was in the North Wessex Downs AONB, and the temptation to push further west was difficult to resist. But I'll save that for another time.

(MTN bike or Road but none of this 100 mile nonesense).I keep skirting the edge of the Downs AONB, but the best bits (where you are) are just out of reach for even a full day's riding. I love the look of those hills and ridges that form the chalk downs out Salisbury Plain way, and they stretch east almost as far as Basingstoke. I've got a few routes in my Strava locker that come out as far as Tidworth, but they're big rides, over the 100 miles each and every one. I used to live in Tidworth, off Kennet Road, so it'd be nice to pop back for a look at how much has changed since I was there between 1992 and 1995.
I like to ride my bike, and loading it into the car and driving somewhere to ride it has always seemed like a bit of a chore to be honest. But as I ride more and more of what's reachable on the bike from home, I'm coming round to the idea of some car-borne road trips, especially with daylight hours getting longer as we head toward June. I'll let you know if I'm planning on coming down. I could even take the train down, have a loop down there with you, then ride home again. Hmmmm? That could be a plan!

YJ, One way train tickets exist you know . Cheap off peak during the week too.
Grateley to Basingstoke.? A 9 mile ride from Grateley to Station Rd, Tidworth via Thruxton and Kimpton Down, partly off road ?
? A loop around the Tidworth area of x duration/distance ?
? A 50-ish mile one way ride home from Ludgershall ?
Even if it doesn't fit with a meet-up with tuffer, this looks eminently do-able at some point, provided I can get up and moving early enough...
32 miles of concentrated fun, packed into a relatively small area today... https://www.strava.com/activities/561341814
Sunset, nearly. I was playing about with the timer on my camera at this point, trying to get the next shot...
...camera balance on a forked stick, and only ten seconds to hit the shutter release, get onto the bike, and get into shot. This was the best I could come up with after several attempts failed and I was starting to get bored with photography and wanted to get back on the bike.
Same spot as the 'selfie' above, but looking in the opposite direction.
A peaceful, post-sunset view of Hawley Lake.
Now the MOD don't want MTBers on "their land", to the point where they are planning a re-write of their Bylaws. But the Bylaws already prohibit motorcycles from the training areas...
...so what's it to be? No motorcycles, and phone the police if you spot one? Or some motorcycles are OK, so be careful and don't phone the police to report them?

Yellowjack - great pics! I got all hung up on the 100 climbs in the south east a couple of years ago, plotted a ride to take 4 in from Princes Risborough, all the way to Coombe Gibbet. Got down there, and could not find the right road, I think in my tired state and not knowing the area at all, I went up and down that ridge about 5 times, but not one of them was right. Gave up in the end because I didn't have lights and had to get back up to Princes Risborough. Then I had to make a separate trip back there to bag the hill, no easy way to get there from the coast. I would not have taken a road bike up that flinty track!
Here's my effort from yesterday, last bit of Fred training, 10 climbs of Ditchling Beacon.

Hope the new bb and full set of wheel bearings were worth the photo. Anyway, I'm more concerned about how long a bolt that holds the chainring/crank together has been missing!
Best thing about early morning rides...

Bluebells out in the local woods, just a shame it is still really muddy.
