Some pics of my ebay special lights as requested - one with the wide angle lens fitted, one standard. Makes me REALLY want a new bike with shifters with rear exit cables! The 2008 Tiagra cables don't half cast a shadow across my path! Not great pics, as they're taken on an iphone, so no control over ISO or shutter speed etc.

See, it's comments like that which reduce the chance of me justifying a new Ultegra Di2 spec'd Canyon to the wife....I NEED a new bike as this one isn't safe for night time riding! wink

Buy the Canyon, lights look much better above bars....it's also illegal to mount them underneath (apparently).

So don't show her. What they don't know and all that.

Ive got a Canyon, get it done!!!!

As for mounting lights upside down being illegal, who's to say there not designed that way, it doesn't say they should be mounted on top of the bars, i know where mines staying mounted, much tidier, less conspicious.

I would post a Whoosh Parrot but I know it is frowned upon.

Well I tried my cheapo ebay special out last night on 25km of the Wirral Way.

Riding buddies were pretty impressed with the power and the spread of light - it outshone my mate's £300 light and after 1.5 hrs was still going strong.

I've got the std beam, so no wide angled lense, but the light spread was fine.

For the money it's great value.

I've used just one without the wide angle lens for a year nearly, but thought I'd treat myself to the second one and the lens ....just because I could! Like you say, one is sufficient for on road and gentle off road. But enough" is never good enough, is it!?

I have just ordered a cree torch with the bike mount and free rear light. I wanted a torch mainly for dog walking duties but I'm thinking it may come in handy as a 2nd light/helmet mounted for when I order my main light.

I actually like the look of the red twin lamp as pictured above but will wait for somebody else to buy one first and then jump on the band wagon.

You wont have to wait long, the want is strong.... Just ordered these though Come from the UK and £34 all in for two. Thinking of ordering two of those red ones from my post above to go with them.

I've just seen that there is a big Lezyne sale on SportsPursuit currently with lots of lights part of it.

I saw that earlier this week and was tempted to buy a couple of Mega's, went for the cheap ebay alternative in the end though as I am not sure they will get used that much.

That double lens unit, but from a UK seller for £31.39 (same seller as in tuffer's link above) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-5000Lm-2x-CREE-XML...
Yes, they are available cheaper outside the UK, but I like the idea of a UK seller and UK postage timescales. Have you received your order yet, tuffer?

For Disney fans everywhere - make your bike look like 'WALL-E' (or maybe "Johnny Five")

I also found (from China) this bad boy... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trustfire-9000Lm-7x-CREE...

Overkill, anyone?? Claimed output is 9,000lm, so a pair of them up front should prevent any risk of a 'SMIDSY'.
