Over the last 3 years I have been using the GCN videos as a basis of my training on the turbo and have ‘seen’ a marked improvement in my cycling fitness.
I know there are some TR plans for some paid for subscription videos (Sufferfest etc), but I was wondering can you record data onto TrainerRoad and then create a workout from there, or would you have to manually create a workout within TR to sync with the video?
After a quick look, I don’t think you can use TR to purely record data. Could you possibly follow a ‘random’ workout, then edit to suit?
As you mention at the end ... Create your own workout .. Say a 2hr ride with the power set at your FTP , then it will look clean when you use it to view your recorded data post workout. (if that makes any sense) . Are my rides showing in the group now?
Tonight was just a slightly edited version of Spruce Knob. 2x30mins at 85% FTP turned 2x30:30 at 87% and amended warm up. I'm up at stupid o'clock tomorrow and I'll be doing around 50mins gentle which will be my 4th day of riding in a row.... Saturday was brutal, Sunday was 3 hours 153TSS endurance but legs felt surprisingly good today.
What do you guys watch or listen to doing these sessions? For intervals or harder sessions that aren't Sufferfest I tend to stick old races (found a website that I can download LOADS of old races called tiz cycling), but for gentle rides where I can actually focus on the programme as I'm it working too hard I tend to stick a TV series on or something to pass the time.

I watch mythbusters on Netflix. It's fairly easy to watch, but if I am having to chew on the handlebars and miss 10 mins it really doesn't matter. If my mate comes over and suffers with me, then I will just stick on some dance music and that keeps us occupied. My set-up below...Edited by 37Flipper on Tuesday 17th January 08:21

My setup is quite similar (kickr, big TV in front of me). I have a massive fan (240W on full power) but it's in my garage, AKA pain cave.
Easy 50mins this morning.

Began my TR (and Turbo) experience this morning with an FTP test. Probably the best comment is that I need to improve my pacing still, it should give me room for improvement.
Well done Carl. The first one is always daunting as you don't really know how hard to push to be able to hold it together for the full duration.I'm no expert and this is just my take, but from looking at your HR, cadence, & power data during the 8 minute intervals, it would suggest to me that you should be able to hold a slightly higher wattage for the duration of the intervals without blowing up, and your FTP may be higher than that calculated today.
The tell tail sign is when you do Taku next. This workout is designed as an endurance workout and put you in the appropriate heart zone. If after you have completed your workout and you look at the Heart Zones tab within the ride on TR, if your heart rate was at the lower end of the Endurance zone, or in Active Recovery zones, it would suggest your FTP is a tad low.
Like I say, just my take. Again, well done.

Definitely agree, didn't go hard enough at the start. No excuses, but I'm an MTB'r and this is only my second go on a TT.I'm no expert and this is just my take, but from looking at your HR, cadence, & power data during the 8 minute intervals, it would suggest to me that you should be able to hold a slightly higher wattage for the duration of the intervals without blowing up, and your FTP may be higher than that calculated today.

I'm going to complete the sweetspot base mid volume but will probably ride outdoors at the weekend and just do the TT mid week.

It depends, either Spotify or I stream something from our Plex media server or on Netflix. Will a cycleops fluid 2 (max budget is £200) provide better training than the £99 or £200 Tacx from Halford (one is magnetic circa 700/800w) the other Ant+ controlled jobbie.
I have a PM so just thinking that Fluid 2 for £180 may be the best bet as the resistance increased with speed not requiring an annoying lever on the bars. I am only looking to do 1-1.5hr intervals etc and not really interested (nor can afford) a Kickr etc for automatic control, much that I would probably like it. At the moment I have been using rollers (first training ever indoor) for 3 weeks and need more resistance.
I have seen the rollers with 3 resistance setting RRP 225 on ebay for <£100 which apparently are pretty good. I just think when you are completely knackered a stable TT would be the better bet.
Interested to know what those with smart TT used before upgrading.

Nice set up. Same Trainer as me (Kickr version 1)....love it. I gave it a "service" the other day....took the freehub off, cleaned it up, regreased the shims and axle etc, oiled the pawls behind the cassette, cleaned the optical sensor etc. Felt good

Mines the mk2 version, from what I can gather, they're pretty much the same though. My setup is quite similar (kickr, big TV in front of me). I have a massive fan (240W on full power) but it's in my garage, AKA pain cave.

My set-up is in the garage too, its detached from the house so it's pretty cold when I start-off. My way of cooling down is to open the garage door with the remote as I'm cycling and get some air circulating. It's been so cold recently though I just keep the door shut. I do have a side door too if needed, but it's very rare that gets opened.

Same routine regarding "variable cooling"
I'm on a Tacx Flow, non e-trainer type...

Does anyone know where the setting is on TR to make it show the Power Figure averaged over say 3 or 5secs like you can on Garmins etc ? .... Mine is on 0sec so constantly the figure changes to accurately .
There's an option to do "power smoothing", it's either in the normal settings tab or in the device settings for whatever it's taking power readings from. I'm not sure whether this means it reads power less frequently (on smart trainers....meaning slower to respond) or it literally just means the readings it shows are an average over a longer period of time though.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
