The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread Vol 2
Discussion
Toying with upgrading the air spring in my Lyrik from 150mm to 170. I can buy one from TF Tuned today for about £50, so not fortunes but being the type of rider whi likes spening time with their money, I had a look round. These things are all over the Euro shifters like R2, Bike disount etc. for about half the UK price but either none will ship to the UK or are imposing minimum order values around the £160 mark - remember £135 is the tops for avoiding import duties in the sunlit uplands.
So this grates on two levels, the obvious one & also Zyro, the UK distributor, whom I know throttle availability by nominating only a few key accounts on this stuff, in order to maintain retail pricing & discourage the diy guys - There's been stuff in the bike trade press on it. Another example is crush washers. On my fork they should be changed as required but are NLA as seperate items, I can only get them by buying a 200 hour service kit for around the £75 mark & they are literally pennies to produce.
It is trivial in the scheme of things but all the same, an irritation.

Emergency maintenance pieces for my Zwift bike (Hoy).
New chain …. Ripped off at my LBS, TriSport…. €40 for a very basic Shimano 10 spd chain (saw today at Andy Schleck Cycles that their higher quality Shimano chains were only €33)
New Shimano pulley wheels …. Destroyed bearings were the cause of my excessively worn, snapped chain.
Bought those from Andy Schleck’s store for €12.99 and the mechanic put them in my derailleur FOC.
Although ASC is a drive, guess who is getting my business?

Quick tech question if I may.
My 2010 Boardman has 10sp 105 groupset.
I'm doing the Fred Whitton this weekend so I've bought a 11-34 to replace my 12-25 cassette.
Not had a chance to fit it yet but would I right in thinking there's almost no chance that it'll work with the rear mech that came with the bike?

this suggests it will be fine...
that actually suggest it's not.SS: Short Cage Features
Maximum low sprocket 30T
Maximum front difference 16T, total capacity 34T
Average weight 221 grams
Available in Silver or Black
GS: Medium Cage Features
Maximum low sprocket 32T with double chainset
Maximum front difference 22T, total capacity 40T
Average weight 232 grams
Available in Silver or Black
Short cage rear mech is only supposed to support max 30 tooth or medium cage a max of 32 tooth. Although it might work, but it also depends on chainset being used and will probably need a new longer chain.

A 2010 bike would have 105 RD-5600 fitted to it. 5700 didn't come out till 2011.The whether its an SS or GS mech, the 5600 could only do a largest sprocket of 27T.

Might be easier to put a smaller chainring on.
