These are me and my sons bikes that i’ve been restorung/re-building.
The Buckshaver is an XS size for my 8yo son and been rebuilt with a mix of period correct and modern parts. Runs 1x7 and weighs in at 19.4lb.

The Yo Eddy is mine and not quite finished. Being built with period correct parts. Both had a re-spray to Aquafade so we can have matching retrobikes when we go riding.

A fantastic pair! The Yo Eddy is very lovely.
Thanks Woody. A few more pictures:

Ok so slightly cheating as it's a stock picture... Bike due just before Christmas.

It's a Geometron G1 with an upgraded EXT ERA fork... Probably the best fork you can buy right now.

OH wants to do a loft conversion, so this was trade hehe

Most excited I've ever been regarding a bike. The attention to detail on these is just incredible.

The shock is bespoke to the frame and uses spherical bearings to minimise binding when the swing arm is laterally loaded.

Last time I was this excited for Christmas I was hoping for star wars figures bounce

I want a new bike, but I haven't got any demands to trade against. frown

No doubt an awesome bike, but those welds look awful, to me. I mean, the actual welds look great, but the overall aesthetic is a bit yucky to my eyes.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I saw it in the flesh.

There's welding and there's nicolai W E L D I N G!

They do polarise opinion. I work in engineering so appreciate the actual weld quality... But agree, properly smoothed weld looks more 'finished'. They're aesthetically 'questionable' , but then so am I. hehe With bikes, I've always prefered function over form...EXT also make WRC dampers.

Having read up on the CF bike industry a bit in recent times, it seems to be an environmental horror show, so have tried to stay away from CF.

I did worry that I was slating your new bike, and that really wasn't my intention at all, so I'm glad you took it how I intended smile

I definitely appreciate the welds themselves, for what they are.

This kinda raised a question - do you weaken the welds by smoothing them off?

Grinding off weld bead removes material so it can. However, where finishing is done for aesthetic reasons it is taken into account in the weld.

I'm not an Si specialist, but there all sorts of other fceack propogation factors at play, e.g. Post weld heat treatment, penetration, stress risers and stress corrosion cracking... Smooth vs fish scale is low on that list.

I work with a few SI specialists so will try and remember to ask them.

Back in the day I had a specialized big hit, I spent hours running my finger along the weld that ran the entire lenght of the top tube.

A decent bit of kit no doubt but those welds certainly look "functional".

This one is chameleon, in some light it's very green, sometimes more purple.

Function over form is Nicolai in a nutshell. biggrin

The fishscale welds are their USP, you wouldn't describe the bikes as sexy, but they do what they're designed to do, very very well.

Thanks for the comments on the Yo Eddy.
I like your Pace. I had an RC200 that I used for commuting. Great bike.
What do you use it for?

The rc200?
That gets ridden, same for all my bikes - not a fan of garage queen's smile
