Not quite todays ride, but a night ride on Thursday. Glad I did as the weather has been worse than dire here since. Was a good 20 miler , which half was in darkness. Trying my new light out, which was great with a light sensor , so dipping in the singletrack in the woods and it came on, back in the open it switched off. What I thought was a spot of mud , before I turned the lights on, wasnt quite mud............ it was cow mud and spattered me and the whole bike, so stunk of st all the rest of the ride. Bike washing in the dark and clothes strip in the garage was also needed, but was a great ride , even if it was the last outside ride as been trying not to die on the rollers since then.
Need to sort a battery for my lid light now to increase vision a bit more, but I still ploughed on with this light and wasnt far off daytime dry times.
Not a great photo , as a/ its dark, b/ my glasses steamed up c/ didnt think to take one until I was a mile from home.

Young bloke and his mate learning about pushing the bits you can’t ride. The climb of which they’ve just reached the top is about 200m long with an average grade of 10% and a loose, rocky surface. Was also about 25C but the lure of a cold Coke at the end of the ride meant I didn’t have to push for a change...

I rode up to Chilton and passed the Harwell grounds the other day , up to the ridge. There was a diagonal bridleway that went across the grounds about a half mile up the tarmac lane. I sort of missed the Icknield Way, turned off too early , as wanted to head that way and across the far side of Harwell and up to the ridge .
To get to the Icknield way from where you were at Chilton, your best bet is to follow the road until the level crossing and then turn left (although this has been diverted through the campus as they decomission the waste water centre). The climb you did is a good descent in the dry, known as death by chalk on Strava to give an idea of what its like when wet. The icknield way is alright on the bike, but a bit boring. The section I had my off was here - https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5790017,-1.3243981... - there's a few fun bits of woods off the icknield way around there.

Not as wet as expected but a LOT muddier. Immense fun. Set to be my go-to source of two-wheeled fun over winter.
Thank God for TSC Bike Wash

Up early and out for a long ride ( long for me !!, at 26 miles). Mist over the fields and the rivers etc, but lovely and fresh after yesterdays rain. Squirrels diving out in front of me and doing suicide runs, before diving into the greenery again. Dog walkers, joggers and fellow cyclists about early.

Pah! Amateur. I bet you didn't hit one either.
Me? I was wiped out hitting a fox a couple of weeks back. Narrow singletrack road, gravel and moss down the middle, high hedge to my right, a bank and a fence separating me from a field on my left. The damned fox sprints out of the hedge, I smacked it on, or just ahead of it's rear leg, and I went down like a sack of st, sliding along the tarmac on my shoulder, elbow, and hip. I don't much like foxes as a result...

Love that bike, what is it, or is it custom built? Not as wet as expected but a LOT muddier. Immense fun. Set to be my go-to source of two-wheeled fun over winter.

Really thinking about getting a gravel bike on C2W scheme, I've got one of these cheap MTB at the moment but 99% of my ride is bumpy pathways rather than offroad.

I'm having more fun on that Gravel bike than anything else at the moment, and it's only just coming into it's own. Dry road, the F10 or 65.1 everyday, but the fun that a Gravel 'Bomber' can me is amazing.
Sunday was a prime example, wet, dirty and unpredictable - it just went anywhere, in 90km, around 2/3rds was off road. So much fun
A few pics from my ride today - sun was out, nice and warm. Just lovely being away from the roads and traffic.
