Headphones for Cycling

I wear headphones 90% of the time when I'm riding and I've never had an issue of not being aware of my surrounding's.

Can you hear the guy about to walk in front out of you?

Will they stop you riding like a 'fat prick doing 25mph' and hitting an unfortunate women?

Will not having them in stop the car/lorry/bus behind you only giving you two inches to spare and spitting you into the kerb?

I ride my bike as I drive my car, with consideration for others, I honestly can't think how listening to music will change that.
