is it worth me really buying a new bike
Discussion
Hi
I have a Gary Fisher Marlin, 04 i think, nothing too special, upgraded a little bit.
I want to get back into biking properly really.
Is it worth me splashing out on something special now, or do I wait and build up my fitness and technique more and then take the plunge?
I took it up to Coed Y brenin a coule of weeks back and the first thing i thought was christ this thing is heavy, it just didn't feel up to the job (neither am i really but i can work on that!)
Plus I am going up to Afan week after next as well, and thinking perhaps i should get something better, to get more out of the trip.
It is all a bit confusing, if anyone could give their thoughts I would be grateful.
Cheers

Personally I would want to be used to a bike before I rode it somewhere like Afan (good choice btw), so getting a new bike with only a week to go would pose a problem.
I would keep the new bike on hold for a little while, get fitter, see if you are still enjoying riding and then buy! (having saved up a bit more too)
P.S. training on a heavy bike will help your fitness as well!

Use your current bike to get fit, decide on the type of riding you like/want to do, then buy a new bike which suits those needs
No point buying a new super light XC bike only to find after a few months you've become hooked on free riding and hugh drops/jumps which your new steed isn't up to!

thankyou for your advice, my bike at the moment is well looked after and fully serviced etc so it is not a case of it being knackered or dusting the cob web offs or anything like that. I tend to get a bt starry eyed with bikes etc and think I have got to get things straight away.
Lets just hope i don't break anything next week!
Thanks again!
