Medical fitness certificate
Discussion
Just had an email reminder that I need to get one of these signed off by a Doctor prior to the Marmotte, GP has quoted £40 for me to drop the form off and then pick it up.
How much have other people had to pay and did you have an examination? Seems like money for old rope to me. Especially as I am having to have a compulsory medical and blood test as I am now 40!

For any sporting event you need a certificate in France,no certificate,no ride.Nearly all events are operated by businesses or associations(clubs) that have to have insurance(by law)
£40 does sound steep but if it's the price to attend you have to pay it.
If I want a certicate from my doc it's the going rate for an appointment, about 25€,and I run off several copies.

From what I have heard £40 isn't too bad, some insist on full examination which is £100 + , from memory £40 is at middle end of pricing
I've heard a few charge £15 but some £150 (for a full examination)
I've also known people to fake the rubber stamp as they aren't really checked, although I wouldn't want to gamble being chucked off the ride for £40!

I had to get one for Tuscany trail last year and another one for Across the 5 this year. Cost me £19 (each year) for a "letter of fact", basically consists of two sentences saying if I'm sensible I shouldn't keel over.
This year I got them to amend it, to cover any event I would want to do, last year they limited it to just TT, so if I'd done another event then it would be £19 each time.

Had my reminder, I've mailed my GP, who phoned to say can you find out what is required so sent them a list of the following which appears to be a good guide from google (although no set standard)
Blood Pressure
Pulse
Weight
Height
Heart
Max Air Flow
I can get that all done by the nurse at work......obviously she isn't a Dr! I expect my GP will simply sign if off and buy a couple of decent cigars with the £40! Blood Pressure
Pulse
Weight
Height
Heart
Max Air Flow

Is a racing licence no longer accepted?
Yes it is, would it be easier to get a Cat 4 license? I assume that would cover me? I paid about £20 for my UK GP to issue a certificate. The first one refused to do it as they've basically never seen me but someone at a different practice agreed to do it, I think they took my blood pressure but that was it. A couple of Swiss based mates got theirs FoC but as I've never been to my Swiss doctor I imagine it'll result in a big bill!
