Heart rate monitor
Discussion
Im on the look out for a heart rate monitor, Not looking for a top of the range but just something that will do the job. Ive found this http://polar.fitnessmegastore.co.uk/polar-297/cycl...
and think it looks a good buy and it has the cadence on it aswell which is a bonus for me. Any views on this or any other recomendations ?

That one won't as it's Wearlink+ and most gym machines don't support Wearlink+ HRM chest straps (I know unfortunately as I have an RS800CX PTE which uses the same tech)
The cycle computer you've got there will only attach to the bike, not wrist so as long as you're happy with that then that's good - you can get bike mounts for the wrist units which give best of both if required.
I couldn't see how it connects to a PC so don't know how important that is to you.
If you just want a basic bike computer (and not interest in using it for anything else) that gives some cadence, speed and heart rate then it's ideal

I would recommend steering clear of Polar.
Their servicing charges (for battery replacement and 'testing' of components) are ludicrous; their servicing department will alwyas find small faults that they 'need to correct' before they can send you your HRM back to you....and these just happen to cost a fortune to correct....and finally they are almost impossible to get hold of on the phone, and they don't accept emails.
I will be looking elsewhere in future.

I always ignore the "send it back to change the battery" requirements and do it myself.
If you want to avoid Polar, I use a Suunto and when I had an issue with weird readings I sent the chest strap back and they replaced it free of charge with an upgraded version. It was back within 3 days too.

If you want it purely for the bike, then the cateye V3 or whatever its called is good, with cadence and a proper HRM strap.
However I prefer to use a dedicated cycle computer, and I also wear a cheap decathlon HRM, which is also useful as I prefer to wear a big cheap digital watch when riding not my nice one.
The HRM watch cost about £20, works fine, has 3 settable zones and a half decent digital watch with a timer. For me, works fine.

If you've got carbon forks I wouldn't recommend it. I have one (well the one down from that, with no cadence sensor supplied) and I get a lot of speedo drop outs, even when mounting the sender as close as possible to the computer. Bizarrely it's quite relaible on the way into work, recording the full 25 KM's, but on the way home I frequently only log about 20KM - so my average speed etc.. is down - which is annoying, as that is what I Strive to improve. Asis, I just look at the total time and divide 25Km by that number to get my speed, which is a pretty retarded thing to have to do if you have a computer.
The buttons suck too.
Should have got the catseye, but wanted HR & polar to integrate with gym.
We live, we learn.
In fact, if you want one, buy mine from me for £50 and I'll get a catseye
