Pace RC 200 - stolen
Discussion
Well some bd has stolen my p&j from Watford Junction Station yesterday - despite two (so I thought) decent locks
Spec was Red Team Issue RC200 frame
DT Swiss Carbon Air RL forks
Hope hoops & hubs
Hope Carbon pro XC brakes
Raceface cranks & rings
XTR mechs & shifters
Any idea how much it was 'worth' ?
it is insured -thank god
and what to replace it with ? - must be light and agile
This was the last MTB I bought;
I had a BMC Pro Machine Road bike, which I sold a couple of years ago, as I just wasn't using it - loved riding it though

gutted isn't the word,,
Been to TWO Evans shops in London today - no decent stock at al lot MTB's all road & commuter; can't say I'm surprised !
Actually fancying a Boardman or a BMC Teamelite TE02 SLX;
Both around the 1600 mark.
open to suggestions....
i think I'm going to get an ebay hack for the station though !
Already monitoring the said sites if it pops up

Well the bike hasn't turned up on any of the usual suspect sites;
BTP are going over the CCTV - surprised as to how proactive they are being!
Insurance co are paying out
Having spent ages trawling websites looking at replacements, I finally ended up taking a trip to Halfords...
Ended up with the Boardman ProC 650B
Just couldn't find anything else that touched it on spec vs price - and also has potential for upgrade later when stuff wears out
Any the insurance payout will cover it fully
wheel size is taking a bit of getting used to as is the rest of the bikes geometry.
Halfords (Watford) actually did a really good job of building it up; I've tweaked a few adjustment to make it fit me better, but on the whole it was pretty much spot on.
It does 'seem' quite fast though from the limited riding I've done on it so far, and pretty comfortable in comparison to the Pace
Better start putting some more miles on it !
oh, and I've bought some new locks too
Abus GranitX D locks
any suggestions welcome if there is anything better than these !

Basically, I had the full spec of the bike detailed out along with pics to back it up; it came to nearly £4k
The policy was new for old; the bike wasn't a specific item listed, but as the single item limit was 1.5K, it was covered - the claims handler told me this the day I reported it stolen to them.
I have upped the security from the last one
and yes, I'm going to buy a clunker for the station run
I've also put a security shackle in the garage so I can lock it up there too - just brings it all in focus a bit more having a bike nicked and how vulnerable it is even in a garage (mind you, they could always try and steal the £120K car that lives in there too
My locking regime;
D lock through rear frame & wheel to one solid bike rack upright
One toughened chain link plus disc lock through front wheel & frame to another solid bike rack upright.
10mm Braided steel kryptonite cable through seat, secured onto DLock
hopefully that should be enough !!
