More than redeemed in Nitro Funny Car!
No Urs either.
They should put Thomas Nataas back in a flopper for me as well though.
Back to potential 4 second 300+mph 1/4 mile Nitro-burning drag racing as nature intended wink
Bring it on!

It is disappointing, always good to have a Brit to cheer on and a fuller field makes qualifying so much more entertaining.

Three teams not attending, all have good cars and huge potential: Chris Andrews, Speedghost and Urs However all three sight finance reasons for not attending FIA Round 1. The Speedghost team could travel to Tierp to test though, and did so at the weekend.

If the weather is good, it will be a great event, I'm sure and plenty of nitro to sniff amongst other highlights.

Also I find it slightly odd that running at Vegas/Pomona is preferable to running the entire championship in Europe. I can understand wanting to race in the States as something to have done in your lifetime but the likely hood of Qualifying let alone going rounds is pretty low.

Agreed, a bit sad but no doubt with reasons.
Sadder because it could have completed a full field for the 1000 f*rt Spurtsters. wink

I thought I'd heard a rumour a while ago that Urs was considering an A-Fuel Funny Car?

Indeed, I meant a Fuel Funny Car, or AAFC and not a TMFC as Urs has driven before.

But on that note, does anyone know why A-fuel engines are allowed in TMD but not TMFC?

That would be an interesting development if they were! smile
There were some in the 70's in the US, I think - they looked great with the injector pipes poking through the body but I guess they wouldn't look like that now..

I remember reading something about a huge insurance hike at any meeting where nitromethane is used. After a lot of lobbying and arm twisting, it was agreed that rear engine dragsters could be fitted with non-blown nitro burners but anything else would be too risky. This kept the insurance costs down for the NHRA divisional sportsman series of events. I get the feeling that NHRA didn't really want A-Fuellers but were pressured into it by drivers' and fans' lobby groups.

But by that logic, fuel funny cars would never be allowed to run either!

Politics. Scott Weis successfully ran an A/Fuel funny car in 1998, he even won a national event....unfortunately though he was a bit too successful. Once he got on a par with the blown cars everyone protested him and the A/Fuel combo was hit with gear ratio and rear wing rules. He overcame them eventually and set a new IHRA record of 5.74; the next quickest car ran a 5.91 (IHRA never allowed screw blowers in the alcohol classes) so that was pretty much that. He ran a string of 5.7's and the combination was banned from 1999 onwards.

Don Wootton ran an A/Fuel motor in a '68 Camaro a couple of seasons back. Even though it was in the ADRL, the NHRA threw a wobbly and said no doorslammer can run more than 50% nitro at one of their tracks. It showed potential though, it kept sprouting larger and larger rear wings in an attempt to load the motor up as it kept dropping cylinders and getting out of shape. Last I heard though Don got divorced and the car had to be sacked off.

thanks we are pretty happy... and heres one in the eye to those here who said it couldn't /shouldn't be done, (see thread new drivers stepping up through the ranks) anyone here think Ian Marshall would sign off a licence if he wasn't 100% sure of the drivers ability to control the car at race speed ...think again....
well done Tet
