Was nitro banned in any way following the tragic crash of Tony Boden at Hockenheim in '86?
I don't recall anything along those lines. There was a time when "fuel" was very hard to get due to some plant blowing itself up and leaving just one manufacturer (in China was it?). I do recall running in Super pro alongside Robin Read and that fabulous little 2.0 litre blown nitro dragster. He had all manner of difficulties joining in Super Pro at domestic meetings (no nitro classes) which I believe was safety/insurance related.

I think Russ's car was the inspiration for Robin. wasn't there was a class class "Junior Fuel" which was looking to be the Euro version of TF in that the costs were much less than the 500cid cars. It's probably true that the skills needed to make your own stuff was always going to be too much in terms of time, skills and money for most of us. It's a long way from crate motors and ready built Powerglides.
I remember Fay thought (but just for a moment) our car had died at the start line as it was completely drowned out by the sheer noise from Robin's nitro spurting headers. The next thing I saw was someone's bloodied thumb flying past me so we all shut off. Strange day that was.
