I bought a Micra 1.4 Sport+, mainly because it was cheap (especially to insure). My insurance last year was £500 fully comp, with RAC, I rang around, and believe me, they were the cheapest (one place charged me £1000!!), and I have 5 years NCB.
The Micra is a group 4, and the Type R i think is 16? I would love a CTR, but surely if my insurance is £500 for a Micra it would be night on £2k for that?
You say you're 22 and own a TVR. You must get paid a hell of a lot, or have won the lottery or something. Here in the north east, I dare say wages are considerably worse than down south, and also live near (but not in) a certain dodgy place that is highly noted for crime.
Agreed though, its best to shop around, but it looks as if my result has been very different to yours for whatever reason.

Firstly, can someone explain to me what a numpty is?
I have a tweaked scoob and I hate to admit I have access to just under 300bhp with torque from around 2,200 rpm and the Civic Type R that was following me up a long straight stretch was certainly quick.
I don't neccessarily know that it's handling was brilliant, or maybe the driver was one of these 'numpty' things but for f**ks sake, what do you want for £16K?
Oh, by the way, my 38 year old girlfriend wants a type R; she thinks they look nice!!??

I'm glad to see alot of people posting replies about this car, I can't imagine the same level of discussion about Renault Clio or a Leon Cupra. The fact is that everyone seems to have an opinion, which is great.
Recently had the opportunity to compare my standard Elise against one at Goodwood. It wiped the floor with me in the corners and on the straights, even though power/weight wise it was very close. I didn't expect this at all and has left me feeling that I should ditch the Elise for one of these. Do you think I'm being too hasty?

Well mate IMHO your talking out of your rear end. Are you by any chance one of those boring rwd is the best thing since sliced bread and and if it doesn't do 0-60 in 4 sec than its slow, grow up! The CTR will out pace and out handle many cars 10 - grand dearer. Just look at the posts from ex TVR owners who say they much prefer their CTR to their Cerbera's, even scooby owners are changing to the CTR. You have simply missed the point of the Type R ethos, high screaming powerful engines that loved to be thrashed. Infact I don't think you've got clue what your'e on about. bye!

Why bother compairing cars which are not in the same class its pointless. or is it cause you are trying say that your car is better than a boxster. Which in my opinion is utter CR4P. The boxster isnt the best car but better than a Type R.
I forgot you are probably happy and got something stuck up your ass cause on a TV Program the Type R beat a S2000 round the track, but also a Knackered Vauxhall Cavilier beat you car round the track so did a Ford Sierra. So what does this mean these cars are better/quicker than a boxster and the Type R. I have come to this conclusion because of you statement and logic

Well cerbie1996 my car only costs 16k not 36k so your argument is flawed. I love TVR's and nearly bought a Cerbera before I got the CTR, but I needed a fast reliable car not a very fast unreliable one. TVR's are not the best built or best engineered of cars and spend most of their time in the garage. Could TVR build a car like the CTR for 16k? they can't even build a reliable one for 40k.
As for the driven item if you care to notice you will have seen the lady who's CTR it is telling the camera that she was not going to try as jason plato and the other guy had a score to settle. When the race finished she said that she hung back because they are lunatics.

I can't comment of the Torque factor as I don't know enough about it but this seems to be going back to the old argument of TVR reliability. Don't start picking on the Tamora as its still a very new product. Give it time and I think you will find that it won't be as bad as the rest.
Every manufacturer has problems but because they can afford to spend 3 years in R&D before releasing a new model you don’t or very rarely hear about them. You know when you buy a new model TVR you are in fact a Test Driver for the product and when stuff does go wrong it can then be fixed. OK so this isn’t probably the best way of doing it but then they are ½ the price of anything else in that range.
Why should TVR build a car for 16k..? the market is already flooded with hot-hatches.
There is no point in comparing a TVR/Porker etc with a Type-R they are completely different animals. Its like saying my Suzuki GV2000 should be quicker than Roops Golf GTi as I have more horsepower…!
This is all IMHO of course.
I've had my TVR for four years now and rarely post anything in relation to my car because it's reliable. In fact given the number of track days I've done etc. I'd say it's the toughest car I've ever owned. In Thom's words last weekend (in French accent) "Ted, your car, it is unburstable"

The Type R is quite a different beast to a 1.4.
A normal Civic is basically just a shrunken minibus with creature comforts. The Type R, on the other hand, has these creature comforts removed.
