Has anyone been to Pistenklaus recently? We are going next week and it used to be the place to go for a tasty slab of meat but the trip advisor reviews are pretty damning.
Forgive what may be a comparatively daft question, but are such places since Covid generally cashless?

Just trying to decide whether it is best to take some form of prepaid travel card or whether cash is still king.

We still go to the pk, but usually for pasta or a pizza.

Always able to get a table, not the best food but not the worst either.

I think the owner is Patricio?

Just bear in mind that your clothes will stink after a visit to Pistenklaus, so best go at the end of a trip rather than the start
You could just change your clothes?

...and if you're that worried about having 'smelly' clothes in your hotel room for the rest of the trip, then a laundry sheet or a blast of Fabreeze will suffice.

Although if I've had gnocchi gorgonzola and a couple of bottles of red, then the smell of my clothes is usually disguised by other smells biggrin

Not giving the waiting staff the tips is seriously poor form tbh , didn’t know that. As a tradition I go there on the last night of my visit, the steak is v tender and had been consistent over the yrs …is the owner the dark haired balding chap? He’s not the most welcoming or friendly of hosts tbh but it’s a cash cow people will always go there regardless.
He might be the manager, but the owner is still the Schmitz family I believe.

Never found him deliberately unwelcoming/unfriendly, but I suppose his mood may be dictated by how busy it is (it can get quite cramped) and how boisterous the guests are.

Was in there one night a few years back and there were 6 of us on a table which he politely and happily served until well past 2am. He does always have that look like he’s just found a tenner but lost a twenty, but then some people are just wired up that way. Never found him unpleasant.

Can you imagine working there? The world and his dog go through there every year. It’s busy and he’s only ever going to remember very noteworthy faces.

Yes that’s him (Patruccio) but he manages the place and has done for a long time now. Still the premises is own be the Schmitz family.
I’ve know hard working friends that have worked there as waiting staff. He also prefers cash to card, had a right bh at me one evening as I produced a card. His limit was something like 25€ min spend. I said it’s card or nothing! Hasten to say I did not tip!

A lot of places towards the end of last year were cash only. Handy way to manage the flow of money into the bank…. Or am I just being cynical?

Certainly in May for N24 I can’t think of a single place we used cash other than the mobile bars around the circuit. Any food was card at restaurants or vans in Adenau at Nurburg.

It just means the track will be open for TF all day.
Only happens a couple of times a year I believe.

I'll be there this weekend. Will be busy but should not be mental busy like Kar freitag.
Been there last weekend in April before and was busy but not horrific.
Weather forecast is reasonable (dry)
Although weather there can be unpredictable. One year (in April) it started snowing heavily half way round, was quite hair raising....

Great thanks chaps.

I used to go two three times a year, it snowed in May once,

Just looked at the weather mist and fog, think I’m going to wait until Saturday morning, if it looks good, I’ll drive down, jump on the tunnel and be there for Sunday. I’ll be in my Blue FL5 Civic Type R if going!

I noticed this year that these places do have card machines, and if you really stand your ground, they will let you pay by card.

I hate being that annoying customer, but I don't want cash and I don't want to walk through Adenau to the 1 cash point.

Try this at your own peril in Ali Baba though laugh

Keep in mind though that this year the monday is a german bank holiday. So if the weather is good it could be busy.

Weathers looking crap all weekend. Was thinking of getting some laps in but will probably just chill locally.

Met office app merely says cloudy with low potential for rain.
Although it has its own micro climate and any forecast is a guess!there for Fri evening and all day Saturday. Hopefully it will be quieter than Sunday and Monday!

I was over there at the start of April for a day, just went to visit for a day while I was at Spa for a track day, weather was awful, thick fog and the track was closed all day, still enjoyed it though being in the area and seeing what other cars had turned up.

I'm back there for 5 days from the 11th May, can't wait now.

I’m at Spa for the Spring Classic and plan on popping over to the Ring on the Saturday (I hadn’t realised how comparatively close it is). I’m going just to spectate though.

Just did TF on Tuesday and Weds evening.

Tuesday was 30% chance of rain and overcast, but it stayed dry apart from about 30 seconds of rain in one area.

I think that this overcast weather kept people away because it was wonderfully quiet (for TF) and I did my fastest lap which was 9:32. I'm surprised that the photographers managed to snap me lol.

Wednesday was a different story, it was sunny and the place was packed. I waited until we were about 30 minutes into the session before going out for my first lap and it was heaving, I stayed on for my second lap but rounded the first couple of twisties after the Carousel to find a car on its roof and a photographer waving a jumper at me, it must've literally just happened.

So that was that, track closed and ambulances zooming along the long straight in the opposite direction to the usual way to get to the crash site.

One of my most enjoyably relaxing laps was TF in rain. My mate had never taken his R8 GT on the track and so I was keeping him nicely in my mirrors. We hooked up behind a UK registered 911 C2 and their pace worked beautifully. We did a convoy lap and barely saw another vehicle.

Decided to do a second lap, this time mate an I were just going to meet pack at Diner and we both discovered if you pick the pace up a little, it's very slippy in places. Overall, if TF is quiet, it's okay, but from an insurance aspect, I've avoided it since.
