Anyone fancy a weekend at the ring July 9th/10th
Discussion
The Ring on July 9 - 10 . . . this site caught my eye while searching for info on (get this) the Renault Megane Sport Trophy, and I signed up just to be able to post to this thread. I'm an American (Boo!Boo!) living in Bonn, which has the great benefit of being (from my front door to the main parking lot) 77 km from the Ring (35 minutes on a good day in the right car). I'd welcome the opportunity to meet fellow "English" speakers and Ring lovers just about any time -- not sure yet about that particular weekend. (But it is right after my son's 9th birthday, so I might be able to convince my wife that renting the 911 at Avis (199 Euros/day) is one of *his* presents!)
Alternatively, I might by then be in possession of that Megane Sport Trophy. I fear that they aren't any more available in Germay, but I'd be interested in hearing opinions about it (if it's not out of line to ask in this thread). I frankly think the Megane is close to ugly -- but if you can have one of 50 in a country in which 80% of the cars you pass are Golfs and the other 80%(!) are BMW 3-series, the ugly quickly turns into distinctive. (Kind of like my current Citroen, which was purchased from the literal old lady literally next door.) Plus, the Sport Trophy is a car that, according to Sport Auto, is as quick or quicker than the MG XPower and the Nissan 350Z; faster around Hockenheim than the MG, the Nissan, a Mercedes SLK 350, or a BMW 645Ci; and posts the second best time ever in the (admitedly new) wet handling test -- behind a 911 Carrera S and ahead of an M5 and an MB CLK DTM AMG. This for 28K Euros.
Hope to see some of you soon. Cheers,
tw
P.S. Bonus points (and a pint) to the first one to recognize the reference in the last part of my user name.

Thanks for the pax laps. Very well sorted car. Makes me want to get a sorted Mk1 GT3! Considering you'd only done a handful of laps, we weren't hanging about by the 4th or so lap!
Glad to be of assistance. Got a few of the 964RS boys going a fair bit quicker as well. Sorry if I was sat there like a 2@ barking 'pace notes' at you!
Take it easy.
Fergus
PS to the sierra cossie driver who managed to park their car over the armco coming out of the mini karussel - how the hell did you manage that?!

What a great weekend. Far quieter than I was expecting and the weather was perfect.
The silver 'Kuntz Racing' Mercedes C320CDI estate was doing OK while it was out. I think it surprised a few people to see that CDI badge on its rump.
Got to meet a few people and had a pizza the size of a dustbin lid at Pinocchio's in Adenau. Couldn't fault it.
