I did 5 or 6 laps of the 'Ring last July, and while the first few laps were tentative, the last few were bold but cautious. I didn't want my parents getting a phone call, but I did drive quickly, but within my capacity. Of course, you never know what some idiot might do. That aside, I had heard that tour buses drive around, and though it was funny. Then I came around a corner and almost ran into one. I think they should ban tour buses! I also saw an old chap in a very, very old Merc estate ask the gate controller what the minimum speed limit was! It's not exactly a road for the faint of heart, or for those looking for a dawdling Sunday drive While I appreciate it is an open toll road and there is a minimum speed limit of 60kph, I think IMHO (uneducated) that they should ban tour buses and numpties :runsandgetscoat: Of course, there are the additional hazards of not looking in your mirrors, too much testosterone, over-turned cars, kitty litter and oil spewed on the track.....I think it's time to go now :dashesoff:

How are they going to deal with someone who goes "balls out" round it after having paid for the privelige, and who then just leaves????

Easy - there's one exit (assuming after Briedscheid) and the police carry radio's!

The problem is Ben, that if they implement a speed limit at Breidscheid, then what’s to say that Schwedenkreuz doesn’t follow suit? And I am sure between us we can think of many other corners that have claimed the lives of drivers/riders.

I think the answer to that is the concrete wall is extremely inconvieniently positioned should you be out of shape so the fatality rate at that corner is high.

As for limits at Schwedenkreuz, from one who has spun out and crashed at 120 there, I would say this is my "preferred" corner to crash at (!) due to the kitty litter (although I'm aware it also has claimed (bearing in mind the incident last year) fatalities) See - www.pikeynet.com/02/05/03/nring244.jpg (No, that's not me in the pic, I was the passenger!)

The other one that springs to mind is Pflanzgartenagain due to the speed one can attain coming in and and how many people get it wrong. However, this corner does have some protection, but certain circumstances (thinking of Joerund) means it's as dangerous regardless of ability.

I think the only conclusion is that *all* of the track is dangerous and the authorities focussing on what is (probably) the biggest problem corner can only be a good thing. At the end of the day one should focus on the fact that this is a tourist drive and those who want it treated as a track should book a track day there.

Now, since we mentioned Pflanzgarten, isn't it wonderfull - were are some pics? Oh yes...

and the corner itself www.pikeynet.com/03/05/23/nurburg077.jpg

Oh and a video of that Schwedenkreuz crash is halfway down this page www.pikeynet.com/02/05/03/nurburg2.htm

Mmmm... Roll on March!

Ben, from all accounts the driver wasnt at fault, I believe that it was the passenger waving a video camera around that caused the crash?

From my experience deaths at the ring are mainly, not always, but mainly from one group. The inexperienced born again biker, something should be done, what i dont know,

I cant believe the greatest circuit in the world is getting a speed limit

all the best

RMA ran a great trackday at the Ring that we attended with them in November. Rolling car Marshalls worked really well and it was a very safe event.

Quite a good gallery of pics that can be reached from our homepage:

Yeah, there was that, plus the mud on the track, the wind blowing in the wrong direction, tyres being off and the temperature control set too high!
