wetter.com is forecasting snow fall Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Last year having to get towed out of carparks wasn't much fun!

993RSR,

Agreed. Neither Henry or I will be taking our GT2s, as there's just too much risk involved if it's wet or snow/slush and the weather is still just too uncertain and can change literally overnight.

Now it's been officially called as 'on' by RMA and therefore the money is spent, I'll go but I'll take down another car, probably my old BMW 5 series Estate, which has road tires and traction control and only 260bhp. It's spent a few days at the ring before and is still fun to drive albeit much much slower.

Sure if they pull us over we will tell them we are small fry and wait for the guys who are 30 minutes behind us.

This is the lasest information I have from a contact at Manthey Racing:

Hi John,

Today the "Nürburgring GmbH" will do an inspection, because some section of the track are still icy. I believe tommorrow they'll inform me about the result. But at the moment
no one could say, whether this will be the final decision, because the forecasting says, that it will snow again on Saturday!!!!

As soon I know something more, I'll let you know.

In the past, about this time of year, I would often develop a compulsive interest in snow conditions in the Alps. The irony of our current situation is not lost...

Surely it's better to cancel it, than spend a heap of cash travelling there and back and not drive.

Why can't the RMA secure some summer time track action? They always seems to get rubbish times.

I suspect there are two factors:
1) what the Ring Mngmnt will let them have (UK outfits don't have a great reputation after WheelTorque),
2) what is affordable,

Gutted too, lets hope it snows now all weekend.

Been in touch by email to Manthey most of the day for some tyres and they reckoned it is the right decision.

Cheers,

Myself, 2 other porkers, and a Lambo are still going out for a road trip.

Anyone else wants to tie up, let me know.

Regarding point 2... the RMA days are the same price regardless of the time of year that they are held IIRC from last years trips... so how does that work??

oh well roll on GP weekend!!

Really! That's gotta be ferkin' madness, no? If you want to go for the GP, fine - get in the grandstand and enjoy it - but if you want to drive the NS, surely the GP weekend is the worse time to do it? I would guess (not done it) that the local roads/hotels/restaurants are mobbed beyond belief and even the NS time is interrupted at T13 so that's pretty much washed out too.
Did anyone do the RMA/GP last year - did it work (maybe it did)?

Agreed, imagine just trying to get to the petrol station!

Looks like the ring management have saved us some brass and alot of driving this time. -10 today!

It will not stop me reserving a place on the trip in November though.

Cheers

I have spoken to a couple of people and it sounded like it was an OK event.. no one really complained about anything. Im guessing you just have to time your trips to the petrol station to when the race is on and if the tracks open all day Im guessing most of the spectators will Foxtrot Oscar pretty much after the main event is over. Agreed it might be a bit of a trek to a hotel but its almost worth it to say you were driving the real 'ring while the F1 boys were on the new girly circuit! might even get on the telly!!
hello mum!

The previous RMA event at GP weekend was no problem. Sure you had to slow down through Tiergarten and go through the old pits but it was no real issue. We got there early both days and traffic was'nt a problem, they were having so much difficulty selling tickets there were shipping bus loads of schoolkids in to fill the seats (free of charge!).

I'd rather these sacrifices than driving the circuit during some of the very busy public sessions.

They made the right decision. During Saturday night we had 15cm of new snow which stayed around yesterday and it was still snowing on and off all day. This morning it was - 15°c and there's still lots of snow, no way you could have driven the track. Oh, and as an aside, Schwedenkreuz and a few other places on the track are still "road works", so it wouldn't have been much fun anyway.
