Abingdon Track days
Discussion
I'm guessing people book trackdays for Abingdon through https://www.motorsport-events.com ? Thinking end of April, just want to make sure I've got the right site ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

yep, correct site. don't forget to buy your addons like helmet, passenger or tuition at the same time.
not long to go for the 29th march event
got brakes done yesterday, and hopefully i'll be fitting an oil cooler at the end of this week.
Thanks for the above replies, got 26th April all booked up, should be good fun!not long to go for the 29th march event

Here are some videos from Friday. I've got footage of most cars, including the RX-7 having a spin, so let me know if you want to see your car.

been on this layout twice, and the normal north layout twice. at least i'll have timings for next event to compare improvements.
annoyingly i dont have any videos. thought i was recording but turns out i wasn't so i've only got timing info to hand. bit annoying as i'd of caught some interesting moments and i'd of loved to rewatch an early morning session between me and that white Exige S. I was genuinely surprised i was keeping close to it across 2-3 laps.

got any of the blue typeR? seems to be a consensus that i'm braking too hard (...late) and is the reason i'm cooking front brakes. be interesting to compare my perception in car vs 3rd person vs your style.most obvious one is you seem to be braking around the end of the cones on right side before the hairpin. i was braking at the drain cover just as the grass starts again... about 2-3car lengths later than you do.

It's actually better for the car to do late hard braking than longer more gentle braking.most obvious one is you seem to be braking around the end of the cones on right side before the hairpin. i was braking at the drain cover just as the grass starts again... about 2-3car lengths later than you do.
Will not cook the brakes as much
If you are on stock pads that will be the issue.
Any idea how often they might change the track layout, and if it's changed recently? I was last at Abingdon in September last year and really enjoyed the layout. Had some time with an instructor too which meant I knew it quite well by the end, but understand they sometimes change it?

i was hitting around 105mph before braking at that hairpin. as a comparison, best laptime i got was 1:16.66, so only 2 seconds slower that a random clear lap i timed clarkey's 620R doing.
in 2 trackdays, i've burnt through 2 sets of projectmu HC+800's (track rated, 800c temp), with the second set on DBA 4000t3 discs. DBA's have 3 heat paint on them, and i exceeded the highest of 630c. Doesnt really give much overhead for pad temps.
Honda fitted air redirectors for the brakes, but there is an aftermarket improved & larger sized version which I've had fitted from day one. still cooking pads and dust seals

i'll be pulling the front apart again this weekend and looking at replacing part of the aftermarket air redirectors with duct hose.
At £170+ for pads and £90 for a full set of 8 dust seals, it's not really viable to be replacing them every event so i need to get something done about it.

I'll cut some videos of your car later on so you can see. Bear in mind the peak speeds with the braking point - I think I was touching about 115mph at that point, which was quite a lot more than I'd expect you to reach.most obvious one is you seem to be braking around the end of the cones on right side before the hairpin. i was braking at the drain cover just as the grass starts again... about 2-3car lengths later than you do.

thats the thing, i'm not on stock pads. ok, i am more than twice the weight of the 620R at around 1460kg.

You'll see that I'm not pushing the car at all, there is probably 10 seconds a lap to find from mine! I was changing gear under 7k and being sensible on braking points and corner speeds as it's only the second track day I've done in about 15 years, and I've only had this car for a few hundred miles. I don't do it to extract the fastest possible lap time though, it's not why I do track days.i was hitting around 105mph before braking at that hairpin. as a comparison, best laptime i got was 1:16.66, so only 2 seconds slower that a random clear lap i timed clarkey's 620R doing.

I think you'll always struggle with brake temperature in a heavy car with this circuit layout. it has a few heavy braking points after fairly high speed sections, with a lap too short to allow them to cool. I would suggest doing no more than a few fast laps followed by a slow lap to cool down

Annoyingly, i didn't actually record most of my sessions. turned the gopro on, but didn't actually press record from within the Racechrono app. I've one short 10minute run at the end of the day and that's all I've got for videos.
thanks for spending the time to upload to help me out
