Trackday car rules and protocol

1) Do I need to be insured on it for road use?
2) Does it even need to be road legal?
3) Will it need to have an MOT to make sure it's roadworthy and isn't gonna explode on track even if isn't road legal?
4) For those who have none road legal cars how do you get it to the track?

If you want to run slicks then most venues insist you have a cage, a plumbed in fire extinguisher wouldn't go amiss either.

Whilst it is in some of the terms/conditions I've never seen the slicks/cage rule enforced.

Organisers generally very deliberately stay away from any form of checking or scrutineering of the cars in case it would open up the liability for "they said it would be OK".

This. It comes up regularly here, but I have never even been asked about the MOT thing...

As you can tell from my username I like motorbikes- apart from the cage bit those answers also reply to motorcycle track days?

Frequently see race cars on track days, so most of your questions the answer is no, UNLESS it is a road car only track day. Some days are specified as for cars driven to the track only.

Only checks I've seen have been the usual license check at the briefing, checking wristbands at track entry, camera mounts and occasionally a marshal at pit entry checking helmets are fastened up (usually a passenger that's forgotten).

Oh, and the usual noise checks on the car obviously.
