Nürburgring in December?
Discussion
Just wondering about people's thoughts in regards to doing this? I am heading over to Germany the first weekend in December and staying about 30 mins from the Nürburgring with the intention to pop over and hopefully spend the day there including one or two laps.
Does anyone have experience of doing this, how likely is it for the weather to close the track? I am guessing that they close it if there is any chance of increasing accidents due to the weather conditions(snow/ice/heavy rain) but I have no experience of going over there and would like an idea of what to expect.

Apart from some great driving roads, there's really not much there. Hopefully the Ring will open for you.
Theres alway a walk through the Boulevard, do a bit of karting, oh and take some photos of the eyesore on steel framework for the roller coaster.Hopeefully it all comes down starting in january.A few years ago we stayed in the Hotel La Source for christmas.Checked ring opening times and yes it was open for christmas eve so over we came, only to find that someone (now buried in the forest) had buggered off with the keys inhis pocket!
You can always do a quick check from here: http://www.nuerburgring.de/fileadmin/webcam/webcam...
Mind you if you're nearby I guess you'll know what the weather's doing anyway!

Not always the case when living two hundred meters lower. It can be very misty down here yet blazing sun shine at Nurburg, likewise it could be chucking it down up there and dry and sunny down here.So in the four minutes it takes to get to work can be living in a different country!Mind you if you're nearby I guess you'll know what the weather's doing anyway!

As another local, last year we were on track most weekends leading up to Xmas. Not allways dry nut even if wet it is a good chance to do lines rather than trying to blitz records. Snow isn't allways going to close the track as long as the tarmac is clear of snow and ice it will be open as long as vissability is good.
As AntJ said there is loads to do if you are keen. Just walking around sections of the track is a great way to spend a winters day.

I had a good trip at the end of November a few years ago and had lots of fun trying to get through 18 redline lap vouchers. It was 2 degrees on a wet track with summer tyres.... you can guess the rest (Zero grip)
I did manage to get through all 18 btw with 3x6 back to back laps over two days at around 15 mins per lap.
Would love to do a December trip but with my winter tyres this time.

Cheers for the input so far guys! Have slightly changed plans so rather than going for just the one day, I am doing a full weekend over there so hopefully sat or sun will be clear enough to go round.
I am not aiming for lap records, I have only done track days as a passenger so will be taking it easy just to try and enjoy the whole experience rather than focusing on driving my arse off.
Would anyone recommend wearing a helmet round? I know its a sore point for UK insurance, but does anyone know of a company that might cover me?
