There's a good reason that most track days you go to, you'll see about 10 Renaultsport Clio's in different states of tune

You won't go faster for less money, light on consumables and cheap to fix should it go wrong.

Have seen a few on track, they seem to do OK, as above it depends on you aims/ego ratio as to how fast you want to go.
Daft thought it will sound, it also can be VERY dependant on where you will be tracking it.
Blyton, Cadwell etc with lots of twisties, not a problem.
Donington, Croft - not so much fun maybe

Hmm I don't want to be constantly pulling over. Have seen a remapped track spec saxo VTS for cheap near me. 140bhp. Are these any good
Snett isn't bad for lower powered cars, an mx5 will corner well and not be a problem. the straights there are evenly spaced out and won't cause you to lose flow. yes, it's a fast track, but that in itself is not an issue.Dony on the other hand can be a little painful with no power as it has a long uphill stretch and parts where you feel the flow is broken if you have to pull over.
saxo could be fun. if fun is the objective
