So I'm off to a public day at the 'ring and a two-day track day at Spa at the end of May.

Now, my own insurers (AON) won't insure me for either, apparently due to the number of claims they've received as a result of incidents at both tracks.

The 'ring I can believe, but not Spa. Still....

So I've tried competition car insurance (Egger Lawson). Their policy has now changed, apparently, so they only insure a *minimum* of 50% of the value of the car. You can no longer buy, say, £5k's worth of cover for a reasonable sum.

This means a staggering £214 per day for £15k's worth of cover at Spa, and £267 per day at the 'ring. Bit rich for me - it's more than the cost of the track day itself!

Does anyone know of any alternatives?

For UK track days I have had insurance, for foreign ones I've used Competition Car insurance and paid a small stipend for a reasonable degree of cover, but this year I shan't bother as it's way too expensive.

Instead I will try not to crash.

I phoned on Monday (I think) and asked and they said "no". Only if a recognised car club (such as PCGB) had organised the event - not an independent such as Autotrack, who I'm going with at end May.

Have a go yourself.... see what they say to you. If they say yes, I'll give them some gyp as it's extremely annoying and I'll have to pussyfoot around once again for lack of insurance.

Well thanks for trying but I just phoned them and their cover is TVR-only. So I lucked out.

Sigh.
