Ok, so I am 19 and in my contract it does say...

Your pay will be 4.60 per hour.

You will sometimes work over the normal 9-5

You may work offsite.

You are not allowed another job.

Is this ok?

730 per month.

I thought that the minimum wage for people between 19-20 is £4.92.

"You are not allowed another job." Righto - pretty unfair demand for a minimum wage position.

What is this job doing?

It depends:

Do you enjoy it?
Is there a good future in this career?
Are you learning a skill or trade?
The UK minimum wage for a 19 year old is £4.92 are they paying you by the hour or monthly?
How many hours do you work?

And the most important question of all - is there any talent there? I would happily take a pay cut for some eye candy biggrin

I assume you want a definition? It means that they can't stop you from getting a job.

What do you do?

The fact that it is in your contract does not necessarily mean that they can hold you to it.

The company doesn't own you 24 hrs a day (unless its the military, in which case they might)

After hours, do as you please. The only exception to this would be if your alternative job conflicted with your present company.

It sounds like they are paying you too little for the number of hours. I would be asking for overtime to ensure minumum wage was sustained.

OK, I may well ask for over time if my wages do not go up at the end of this year. I am just finding it hard to be able to own a car (£1900) a year! And a little luxury like going to the gym and a phone bill. That is all, no rent, no water bills and no leccy bills. frown

You don't get paid overtime yet may finish at 8pm? Doing overtime reduces your hourly rate quite nicely. Oh, I mean nicely for your boss. wink I'd be looking to negotiate a better rate if I am expected to only do that job but you must (1) be a decent employee (2) be prepared to vote with your feet if your boss laughs at you and asks if you're ok to stay until 10pm tonight.

Well by *vote by your feet*, do you mean leave?

Sorry, I am not very good with the slang of business!

I just want to be somewhere in a few years and be somewhere big. I work my butt off.

Am i reading this correctly, £730 a month, £4.60 per hour, so its 39 hours a week and therefore a full-time job?

If so, find out why they are paying less than minimum wage for a starter. Can you give us more info OP, e.g. the actual job it is, it will help with further advice.

What do you do that is such a low wage? My initial thought was apprentice but it doesn't seem like it from your posts? Even supermarket shelf stacking would pay you £940 a month.

I work at a kart circuit.

I don't really have a job title as such because I have to do everything, from, cutting grass, sweeping up, fixing the karts, taking money, helping customers, most usual garderning jobs on a bigger scale.

You should check what hourly rate you are actually being paid and that the rate has not been increased to comply with the new minimum wage rates which came in on October 1st.
The minimum wage rate is just that, the minimum that someone is legally allowed to pay someone of your age. Paying under that rate is illegal and renders the employer liable to prosecution.
Is there a clause about the pay rate for additional hours? Does it say that additional hours will be paid at time and a half or standard rate? There is no legal requirement to pay an enhanced rate for additional hours but it is usual for this to happen.

I have read through it loads and loads, and again just then! It does not say anything about that no.

Basically feel like I am being taken for a ride.

But I do love my job and enjoy it smile

In that case, they must pay you £4.83 an hour or they are breaking the law. I'm surprised they would then put that figure in a contract unless your boss is completely clueless or there is some confusion over your age.

You need to take it up with them asap. As well as getting some clarification on what is a reasonable amount of extra time to be working above your basic contracted hours. If it was me I would expect to get paid for anything I did above the basic contracted hours if I am in a job paid by the hour and if it was a regular occurence.

Highly appropriate for a karting circuit. biggrin

Ok, here's the thing. If you feel it could lead to something big or enable you to gain experience, then go with it (but check the legislation re minimum wage; speak to your citizens advice bureau if you are unsure). And you say you enjoy the job so that's a damned sight better than many employees out there.
