What was this guys trade/skill set?
Was head electrical engineer at an estate management company. Fancied a change of scenery.

I'm delighted to report I'm low BMI and ready to climb towers like a moneybiggrin

Chaps, we have just had the work reqs for London Array. Sadly, as per usual, experienced offshore turbine techs only. Drop me a line through PH if you're interested and i'll get all the info across.

Hey Folks,

I applied for the Sherringham Shoal - Wind Turbine Service Technician job around six weeks ago but have yet to get a reply. The advert was taken down almost four weeks ago now, though my status is still "Application in Process".
I'm guessing that if there was any good news I would have heard it by now but was wondering if anyone else has had any sort of response, be it good or bad.

Cheers, 'Denzil'.

Gentlemen, we've had another block land with us. In this instance SWT Level 1-3 are NOT a requirement as training can be provided. HOWEVER, you must have had offshore turbine installation/maintenance experience of some type (ie on Vestas et al).

Drop me a line if interested.

Gents, kind of related to this topic, I work as a SAP and commissioned 2 new wind farm connections last year north of the border. With the continued growth in this sector my company are looking to employ around 40 new SAPs over the next 2 years. Minimum hnd required and experience in electronics and or electricity supply.

If anyone is interested let me know and when the post are advertised I will give you a shout in case you miss it.

I've got a business and finance HND and i've electrocuted myself a few times. not deliberately though and not through the death chair either.

its a shame i wouldnt mind getting into an industry like this but the lack of working with electronics/previous experience lets me down frown

i am a generator engineer but would be interested in moving into this industry, would that be possible? HNC in mechanical technology/ engineering as well as city and guilds level 3. I am guessing a lack of an electrical qualification goes against me, however i do have some electrical expirence working on generators and my hnc had an electronics unit init.

Thanks any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the reply Capita.
I will keep hoping (suspense is a terrible thing) though I can't see how I can still be in the running if you have been turned down!

I may considder paying for some of those courses too if I was sure it would make a difference.

In my experience it'll only help if you're going for a job with one of the O&Ms (who don't like paying for training/certs as it comes straight off their project profit). Sadly, the O&Ms tend to only take on techs with demonstrable experience in any case, so it's a catch 22.

By all means do it if you've got money to burn, it certainly shows you've got commitment but the reality is that it probably won't make too much difference I'm sorry to say.

For my side of things keo it really has to be electrical qualifications. If you had that next to your mechanical hnd you would be ideally placed

Hey guys nice to find some one in a similar situation to myself!

About myself Im an Irish electrician (its a longer more in depth 4 year apprenticeship than the English VERSION) qualified 2 years ago and spent the time inbetween on an extended round the world trip!

So Im currently doing a mechatronic degree online while trying to get a job as a technician.

I all ready have 3 friends (electricians as well) working as technicians so it can be done!

I have had 2 interviews with a large utility company here one in an office setting and another up a turbine, but then they froze the recruitment.

I got asked would I attend an interview with Siemens..I agreed but heard no more..similar situation to a few lads here.

I allways make a point of having no promblem travelling/living or working anywhere it seemed to go down well in the last interview anyway.

Interesting reading the thread anyway...best of luck!!

Hnd or degree in electrical engineering. I work for one of the big 5 energy utilities and the next 5 years will see massive investment in the network.

The first batch of jobs will hopefully be filled by June of next year so it is a little time away. However in a time when everyone seems to be shedding jobs we seem to be building and there is a massive skills shortage in this area do once you have a bit of experience behind you the worlds your oyster.
