Know of someone who could be worth contacting but they're in W Yorks, and they probably wouldn't want you to go through the hassle of a relocate

I'm guessing because it isn't in your profile?

Have you thought about some voluntary work? Locally we have a community learning centre, which provides basic IT, literacy, numeracy training etc. They really struggle to keep their computer network going and are always on the lookout for people to help. Something like this would give you some hands on experience, you could potentially help with teaching basic IT skills to users and other volunteers. It would look great on your CV. There are loads of organisations looking for voluntary help which would give you the same sort of experience. Setting up websites is also something that voluntary groups struggle with.

Schools are definitely worth a look. Many schools only advertise in the schools press - not a place that IT people will often look. Ring up your local school and ask where they advertise - for example here in Essex it's www.essexschoolsjobs.co.uk and most counties have something similar.

If you do apply to a school always ask to have a visit. Schools rarely offer interviews to anyone who hasn't arranged to visit the school after seeing the advert.
