Failed vetting for a Police call handler job
Discussion
Please help!! I applied to become a special constable the other week,I received a email back saying that my application was rejected. When I asked why they had said it was because I had received a caution for theft. In the application I was very honest and wrote down that I had received a caution for theft when I was 14 years old,I'm now 36 years old.I have never been in any kind of trouble since that day.Joining the police is something I have wanted to do for such a long time and I now feel totally saddened by there decision.I did send a few emails back explaining that I was 14 years old but have never received anything back. Can anyone advice me on what I could do and how to do it ? Just to let you no the details of the theft it was at my neighbors house and it was a Walkman i stole. They didn't call the police it was my parents as they waned to teach me a lesson.

I thought you didnt need to disclose cautions as they are not part of a criminal records. LisaMarie123 said:

Vetting is a strange thing and there isn't too much about it (rightly so). Have a look at https://police.community/
There they have serving police officers (PCs and SCs) who will be able to give you more assistance with any queries.

The forms have a variant of "You must declare all convictions for any past offences, formal cautions by the police (including cautions as a juvenile, i.e. under 18 years) and any bind-overs imposed by any court. "Sylvaforever said:
I know of someone, who on renewal, 4th time ,for his firearms certificate, on this occasion omitted to declare a traffic offence [sp50 I seem to remember] from the 80s and had his ticket revoked for failing to provide full disclosure..
I've had an SP50 in the past and can remember when it was. Not that I'm applying for a shotgun licence but of interest would you need to declare SP30s as well? Had several in my younger years and would have no idea exactly when they were - it was ~20 years ago! Also in my defence I was doing 25-30k miles/yr so the chances of getting nabbed were significantly higher than with the 6k/yr I do now... S10GTA said:
I think there is more to this, as similar happened to me with the RAF.
At the initial stage of the process I was asked if I'd ever had contact with drugs. I advised no. At the second interview they asked me again and I came clean about my step sister being in prison for a drug related offence. This wasn't an issue, but my integrity was now in question and I was turned down despite having a start date and having passed everything else.
I wonder if in this case she has done similar?

All convictions, including motoring convictions, must be declared upon application. Failure to do so may result in your application being withdrawn. Spent convictions must also be included as they are never classed as spent under this legislation.
This is to be granted a "licence" for a air pistol or rifle in Scotland now...

I knew there was a licensing scheme coming in but is it really that strict? All convictions, including motoring convictions, must be declared upon application. Failure to do so may result in your application being withdrawn. Spent convictions must also be included as they are never classed as spent under this legislation.
