Also dont forget about Neighbouring suppliers etc to Nissan, not employed directly by nissan, but still car and Nissan related, the likes of Valeo etc, would you like me to call on my contacts to see if there's anything current?
If I remember right there is a Johnson Controls factory up that way which make seats (I think) for Nissan, never heard back from them either. If you can find out about any vacancies for me or point me in the right direction to find out myself, I would be very grateful
How far would you move? There are always trainee jobs going in Aberdeen, e.g.

Qualification requirements often aren't too onerous, with emphasis being more on attitude and mechanical aptitude.

"If you find the right place volunteering can be great for your career (and some places recruit staff from volunteers)"
This is a great idea submitted by "boredofmyoldname". I think what he means here is to find organisations you are interested in working in (and that could be anything) and find out if you could volunteer for a couple of months (or whatever the term). If they are unionised it is not likely so determine that first, but if they aren't and are willing to do so, it is an excellent foot in the door. You could volunteer hours around your present job and at the end of the term you would know if it is somewhere you would like to work (or not) and also you will have proven your abilities with the possibility of future employment. This really is something worth looking into.

So, I've got a telephone interview tomorrow, bricking it to be honest as I've never done one before and have to answer a competency based question then do a role play, both of which scare me.
The competency based question is to "draw on your skills and experiences from previous roles" as a till monkey/shelf stacker in my current job there isn't a lot of skill to draw on lol any queries have to be passed on to a supervisor as I'm not trained to deal with them (when did common sense die?) and the last time I tried I got a slap on the wrist as I apparently admitted fault on the company's behalf by saying sorry to the customer.
As for the role play, I've never worked in a call centre before so don't quite know what to expect. Argh.

All they're looking to hear is the answer which suggests you've got a brain in your head, you're not going to be a liability from day one, and you can follow procedures. If you have to make it up, go for it. Don't just cop out and say "oh I never had the chance to".
Yep. Even if you get an answer slightly wrong, they are more interested in that you tried on a lot of these things - what they are looking to rule out are the people that just "errrrrr" and "ummmm" and "init".Nissan applications are on hold at the minute, I can only presume due to the current Japan situation and getting parts from there, i applied august last year, waited nearly a full month between each stage of the application process, skills test, line trial, interview, medical....and since passing the medical it has now been a month and i still haven't got a start date! rang them today and they said don't expect to hear from us for a while as all applications are on hold!

Failed
Which call centre was it, if you dont mind me asking? As promised I did call on a few friends in Nissan, but as someone else has said, they've currently got a freeze on, and may be reducing working hours for exisiting staff following the whole Jap incident.
Chin up, try not to dwell on it, move on to the next one.

The interview was at Tyne house on Bracken Hill business park but the lease is up on that one so they are moving, I think (although could be wrong) all the staff from that one are going to Rainton Bridge, Houghton Le Spring. As promised I did call on a few friends in Nissan, but as someone else has said, they've currently got a freeze on, and may be reducing working hours for exisiting staff following the whole Jap incident.

But they do have another one up on Bracken Hill, Wear house, so I'm not 100% sure what's going on.
Turn it into a positive and use it as ammunition for your next interview - you know why you've failed, presumably (if not ask them - lots of people do this so they can gain direct feedback and improve interview performance), so address the reasons why and try again. A big part of it is learning to relax - they can't cut your hands off, so don't sit there shaking and stumbling your way through sentences.
If you need someone to practice on pick up the phone, pick a random number out of the phone book, and pitch them something, anything. No script allowed. If you get a bite, call a real company from the yellow pages and give them the lead.
