Wind turbine technician
Discussion
Hi Folks,
This thread has been the best source of info on Siemens I have found !!
I'am currently working on Clyde wind-farm in Scotland (152 2.3MW Turbines) I have applied for a few roles at Siemens and it just seems to take AGES to hear anything back. I have made a good few contacts had recommendations from 7 Siemens employees and still can't hear back. Even spoke to the UK Onshore line manager and he seemed really positive but also added "you just have to be patient". Just really keen to get into the industry I have pestered the life out of the commissioning techs & installation techs/foreman for information on the job so if any one needs some info I will answer what I can.
Just looking for any more info from the extremely helpfull bunch on here on gaining a job with Siemens.
If Siemens recruitment employed some of the guys from this forum I reckon they would be onto a winner
All The best

Yeah I've noticed pretty good read. Good luck with the job hunting.
Does any one know if there's interviews in the near future I've applied for installation technician on & off shore and on the status it says application in process so fingers crossed .
Also does any one know if gaining the 17th edition Electrical C&G is worth while, or will I need 16th edition also ?

16Th Edition was replaced by the 17th mate, its just an update of the wiring regs (or money making scheme depending on who you talk to!). If your not from an electrical background it might seem a bit alien but its pretty straightforward and is an open book exam.Does any one know if there's interviews in the near future I've applied for installation technician on & off shore and on the status it says application in process so fingers crossed .

Hi Guys,
New to the forum but have a few questions that i need answered so here goes.
Im currently applying for loads of openings for Wind turbine Technicians with Siemens and have come up against a brick wall. Loads of applications being knocked back and dont know why.
I am a qualified electrician and have worked in heavy industry for 14 years and cant understand what they are looking for. Any clues.
I was thinking of doing the BZEE level 3 course at Northumberland college to improve my chances but dont know if im wasting my money, all £3000 of it so any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
Getting tired of knocking on doors and getting dear johns via email.

I was the commissioning engineer for the Clyde South S/S.
The Clyde North one with the suspect transformer wasn't mine! ;-)
Good luck with the job hunt.

I stay just down the road in Moffat so similar views. The job hunt is now going well I sat my TAG Turine climbing and Rescue Course and seems to have helped a lot and I would highly recommend it to any one looking to get into the industry as it gives you a better idea of what's involved with the heights and the fact you climb a real turbine albeit a 30M one so a lot smaller than most other turbines that will be worked on these days. Because before the course I would of said I had a great head for heights and still do but if you aren't familiar with harness or fall arrest equipment it takes a minute or two to put your trust into the equipment but once you trust it the course becomes a lot easier or atleast that's how I found it.

Hello everyone,
Just signed up as I seem to be in the same boat as everyone else, trying to break into the offshore/onshore wind industry and making slow progress.
Currently a maintenance operative contracted to the water industry but been looking to get out for a while.Loads of qualifications and experience including electrical and mechanical fitting.Has anybody got any contacts other than Siemens (been applying to them on a regular basis).
Also trying to get in touch with ESCARGOT (are you out there!) as I would like your advice on if you think its worth self funding the Siemens level 2&3.If I was to go ahead would I get employed in the industry quicker or would they just see me as another candidate with no experience on the wind turbines.

Good stuff,In my Opinion try going for smaller companies rather than straight for the big dogs, because atleast within a small company or smaller companies there will be more opportunities for learning and training whilst still working along side the larger companies just gain experience and make contacts. Even though you will have heard it a thousand times KEEP TRYING its a pain in the ass but more than worth it when it pays off. Hope this help a bit.
