Trainee train drivers wanted...
Discussion
Cross Country wanting trainees nationwide. Only stipulation is that you’ll need three years Railway experience.

After passing the assessment day last October with DB Cargo I went for their interview and that was the last I heard despite chasing it up so gave that one up.
I applied for the Northern jobs that are going at the moment and had an interview last week, it went pretty well and I passed that so I'm now in their talent pool. Pretty chuffed as they were saying they've had thousands of applicants due to no experience required and publishing it in the local media.
They did also say I could still be in the DB talent pool. Northern is owned by Arriva, which I think is part of the DB group.

Reading some of the comments on here, is 'Talent Pool' code for good work but you're unlikely to get a job as only the best candidates are skimmed off the top?
Ish.Recently the TOC I work for were taking applications to go into the talent pool, no job per se but it allows them to build up a database if you like and then when the trainee Jobs come up, directly contact the people who have made the list.
Let’s hope they don’t leave a load of people in the lurch like last time

Get in quick if you fancy it, they’ll quickly have more than enough applications

I saw this advertised in my Facebook feed yesterday but with 23 March closing date as one of the bullet points when you clicked through. However, it's still live today with the closing date removed. My nearest LNER depot is Neville Hill in Leeds which, according to Google maps, is 43 minutes away, though I suspect it would be more during rush hour. Not that a train driver working shifts would necessarily be commuting during the conventional rush hour. Anyway, I'll give it a go!https://lnerjobs.co.uk/jobs/vacancy/trainee-driver...

The depot and signing on point is at Leeds station. To be fair it often took 43 minutes just to get in or out of the long stay car park Decided to give this a go and applied on 29 March. Must have done alright in the online assessments that formed part of the application process as I got a telephone interview, however, after a (roughly) five week wait I heard again today that my application wasn't being progressed. You can ask for feedback so I will and see if I can learn something useful for future reference.
Interestingly the application process asked you to confirm that you were within an hour of your chosen depot while a question in the telephone interview said 50 minutes.

Trainees and training is on hold, no one is being employed ATM, don't lose heart.Interestingly the application process asked you to confirm that you were within an hour of your chosen depot while a question in the telephone interview said 50 minutes.
Certainly won't lose heart. This was my first attempt so I'm just looking forward to the feedback, see if I can learn something useful from it. On a rail related forum there are applicants for the same role saying they've made it to the next stage, so there must still be some effort being invested in priming people for entry to training.
