No he isn't at retirement age (60). It wouldn't be a struggle for him (hence early retirement plan) as he has mortgage paid, owns another property and is pretty comfortable. However don't think he will offer for voluntary as he wouldn't get anything (3 weeks wages) and he wants to keep doing a couple of days from home so may feel this would jeopardise it. I really don't think hr has any say in who goes, It's coming from the senior management. Just so st waiting to find out.
Positive mental attitude, it sounds like the fact cards are your way. If it happens, it happens ; limit your wallowing time, and crack on with your new job of getting a new job. Fingers crossed for you.randlemarcus said:

We are 1 week into a 30 day consultation and the numbers have been released. Out of 92 office staff they are getting rid of 10. Surprisingly low considering they told us a 50% drop in revenue was predicted over the next 12 months.
Sadly I am one of those at risk, they are getting rid of 1 of us from a pool of 4 (3 cad operators and 1 design engineer). I really am fearing the worst as the others are far more experienced than me, just fail to see how I can outscore them on the 'matrix' they have sent us. However i think it would be naive to think they haven't already made up their minds.
I’m also a CAD Technician in the south east (Mechanical & Electrical) and despite me being the one only one in my department currently, I was still placed on furlough for 8 weeks while the projects shut down. My worry was that they would just start outsourcing the work as and when they needed as we aren’t hugely busy with in house design work at the moment.Sadly I am one of those at risk, they are getting rid of 1 of us from a pool of 4 (3 cad operators and 1 design engineer). Not much more I can add but just wanted to say best of luck and hope it works out for you. Feel free to message to me if there was anything you wanted to chat about that I could help with

Ha ha. Good point! IT software, but frankly I can account manage anything.
Do you have any experience in anything UC / Voice / Comms?Got a meeting with the MD today to discuss the finer details. The other person in consultation is our trainer and she was told that they will pay furlough up till end of Oct and she doesn't have to use her holiday and they'll pay it. That better be offered to me as well or I'll be fuming!

Reason I asked , is we have a need for really good UC/Voice account managers (aka salesmen ) who actually can form relationships with employees , not only customers. I'm technical side, not sales.
Probably not a good fit as we don't really do any mobile/PDA stuff.
My little brother was furloughed from Yo Sushi but they've just announced they're going into CVA tonight and will be shutting 1/3 of their stores as a result. His store is on the list so he now moves from the furlough "pretending we're still employed" list to the confirmed casualties one.
Not a major problem personally as he's a teenager living with parents, some of the people he work with will struggle to feed themselves though.

That's not ideal.
Surprising though, with this "eat out to help out" scheme.
My Dad had the news after 35 years of loyal service, and 4 months of Furlough he is to be made redundant November.
Very stressful for him, the company he works for (Council owned) have been clowns throughout the Furlough and redundancy consultation period.
Luckily, he saved a lot and has a good pension, as well as a nice new Jag V6 to drive around in.

Well our lot are complete idiots - there’s no work bit they decide to only furlough one department (we have 3) so the furloughed department have just won a contract and are coming back to incredible amounts of work so no work from March to now and then straight back on it. They tried to make it work with us so presumably they could make some small profit even though people were begging for furlough - now company is saying we’ve cost them too much In downtime and It’s time for redundancies.

The twin of the brother above has now been binned from his job too, driving a van delivering furniture. Not a major problem personally as he's a teenager living with parents, some of the people he work with will struggle to feed themselves though.
I'm not confident at all in either of their short term prospects here. 19 years old and looking for entry level jobs.

Oh dear, sounds like we are beginning to head into mass redundancies ...
Stay strong all.
You say that like it's a surprise ? Stay strong all.
The cynic in me reckons that the big companies will take the opportunity to get rid of 10% even though they are in profit.
The rest? There's a lot of companies that are fked.
The company I work for main dealer has 3 separate brands issued redundancy last months roughly 25 people going mainly sales roles and a few in body shop/pdi tehcs etc etc. But looking at it they had way to many staff for the turnover. Also one of the brands the manufacture wants to move to a different area we have been offered to bid for the contract but that's up in the air atm. Wont be for another 2 years when that happens.
Our side we have all kept our jobs and tbf we have been as busy if not more so since before lockdown so im safe for now. We are lucky that there really isn't a competitor with the same brand in a 40-50 mile range of us so we get a lot of the local breakdown work from the likes of aa/rac etc etc and we are ramping up on mot testing now the extension has ended, also the only other dealer group with the same brand got flooded out badly in the feb storms and uncertain if they will re-open.
Feel sorry for all the innocent people that are facing redundancy or the near threat of it.

Well, to put a different spin on things, my place is having a clear out of those who are "too old and too expensive." All voluntary, through a severance scheme (because they wouldn't get it through employment legislation). The method of calculating the starting point for negotiation is shared and shows that some of those a couple of years off retirement who have been here since the year dot will be walking away with sums just breaking into six figures.
Nice, if you find yourself in that position.
