Start applying for jobs straight away, you really need to move quick in this market.

I found having my details on CV Library helped alot and would get calls from agencies over particular roles.

It took me 6 weeks to find a job(got my new offer today) and i was applying for around 5-8 jobs a day everyday, so I think i applied for over 100.

Of which 80% you get nothing back and 19% you get an automated response saying your not suitable 2 weeks later.

So its hard and upsetting but you just have to keep going and hope for the best.

I was with my last company 4yrs so like you I didnt have much redundancy money to go off which didnt help.

Not heard of CV library but I'll take a look at that. Thanks.

If you have been notified that you are at risk then that is the start of the redundancy process.
Indeed, best of luck BigMon. Don't leave prior to finding out if you are being made redundant unless you get a good offer, as you will lose any payment you are entitled to and sometimes redundancy processes don't lead to you being made redundant.

It's a stressful time, not just for you, I was the one making the choice of who to make redundant in the past and had to back up that choice at a later meeting with union reps prior to a possible tribunal. The other side, unless they are aholes, don't take these decisions lightly.

Thanks for the above.

I'm reading between the lines but following the chat today, and following some questions I asked I think I will be made redundant. I'm the only person doing my role at the site and there is a central provision elsewhere in the country. I was more or less told we've managed without you for six months and so we've decided we can manage without you. I have a meeting on Monday and I think redundancy will probably immediately follow that.

To be honest I think they've handled it very badly but there we are. I'm aware there is no sentiment in business.

Just another experience to add to lifes rich tapestry. I'll move on and hope I can get something else soon.

Had my 1 on 1 company briefing today and as of 2nd of November I'm being put on the job retention scheme until the end date of the year

If no work comes in in the next month or so though I will then be made redundant. They were unable to answer wether or notice my notice would be served in January, which would mean me finishing work at the beginning of Feb? Or if it would be given in December, with me finishing during the Christmas break.

If you not aware, its a new scheme that starts in November called the Job Support Scheme. You can read the details at https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/governmen...

I am aware of it, the problem is, is that the company itself is on its arse (consultant engineering) The job i am currently working on will be finished before the end of next week. And as of now there is no other work in for me to move on to.

So for the next month or so they will be giving me 13 hours work per week, but I'll likely just be putting documentation and procedures together to keep me semi busy.

I have just recently finished the concept design for a piece of equipment for Dounreay, we are crossing our fingers that the scheme and subsequent detail design phase will be awarded to us in the next few weeks, if that does land it will give me approx 6 months worth of work to go at. If nothing does land though, they will have to make cuts, and as I'm the most senior and the rest of the lads in there are still apprentices, it will be my role that will have to be made redundant.

Here we are at the end of the scheme. What a strange 7 months it’s been.

I got my redundancy money yesterday and as of Monday I’m full time working at a double glazing factory for just over min wage. It’ll keep me solvent for medium term and I’m hugely grateful I have work but I still find it astonishing that in 8 months I’ve gone from suits and meetings to steel toe cap boots and manual labour. Very humbling.

I hope everyone in this thread is doing ok.

So lockdown to be announced this week apparently - surely they’re gonna have to extend this?

Well done on doing something, I've seen a couple of ex colleagues holding out for IT jobs for a few months while doing nothing else, any job is better than no job imo

Good luck, unfortunately I think come Feb I think things will be even worse for many

Good luck to you! Yes it’s been a strange year, I went from commuting from Manchester to London to working from home, being furloughed and having my wage cut to going back to work and being busy working from home again.

We’re not out of this st yet though, good luck to you all!

Apparently 2 million people were still on furloughed as of a few days ago. Less generous scheme now being introduced, so will interesting to see the employment figures in time. Going to be a difficult 6 months for some people.

I’m supposedly due back at work on Monday, had an email earlier in the week to confirm.

After this evenings announcement, I’ve still got to go in on Monday but who knows if I’ll actually be back or if I’ll be home by lunch for another month.

Most of those being let go at the end of the scheme will have finished yesterday. For those of us in that situation the extension is no use, our employment has already ended.

I'm assuming it's there to pick up for those where businesses unexpectedly have to close again, not to carry those whose jobs have already been declared unviable.

Commiserations and best wishes for finding alternative employment obviously.

Two people yesterday told me that they have been "furlonged".

Does this mean that they have been furloughed for longer?

I was furloughed April-July, and have now been refurloughed.
