I'm going to guess either something to do with IT or Finance

Looking on reddit, almost everyone that replied to the 6 figure salary thread worked in either I.T (DevOps, Cloud, Cyber Security or IT sales engineer) or in finance.
My bet is he's a "Finance Director" wink

I'm currently on an all expense paid holiday with my in laws

Brother in law in an entrepreneur. Not sure how much he makes but he's paying around 5-6k a day for this holiday for 14 of us. He paid £1500 for a week's worth of ski lessons for my son in half term

It would be nice to be able to spoil family but just not possible in what I do

I’m on just over £30k. It’s fine. Wife is on maternity. Mortgage and all bills are paid for, we have around £250 to £300 left per month that doesn’t go very far nowadays, but also I don’t really get the feeling we need any more. Just as well I have no interest in cars, travelling or a flashy house.

So I guess the answer to the question is, just over £30k.

Child benefit will double your disposable income, right?

It’s about £90 every four weeks. I’ve included that in the figure above. When the wife returns to work next year and our daughter goes to Nursery our disposable income will be around £600 per month, which seems fine.

I suspect it’s more likely he’s involved in the structural engineering of the underside of bridges, documented and presented to junior scholars.

I have seen the N + 1 rule on these forums in the motorbike and aquarium threads.

In a similar vain, the ideal salary is probably about N + £5k, with ‘N’ being your current salary.

It’s pretty inspiring to hear someone say they are actually happy with their lot. Think you may just be the richest man on PH.

I would say it's n +(n/4). The greater n is the grreater the amount you want.....

In recent years both me and my wife have taken huge pay cuts. Mine was roughly half after I sold my business, my wife's about 20%. Both reductions came with modest payouts that have afforded us a motorhome, solar panels, both bathrooms redone from scratch and paying off the mortgage. My wife especially is happier than she's been for well over a decade and now it's just a case of both of us keeping going towards retirement (we're 57 and 56). So I guess as long as you can afford to pay the bills and have enough left over to do with as you please then maybe that ought to be the answer to what salary are you happy with?

I had a number in my head when I was in my early 20s. I surpassed that in my 30s and am now pretty much double that figure in my 40s. My lifestyle and expenditure has risen roughly inline with my earnings, so I would be happier with more, which would (probably rightly) be ridiculed on here, given I earn pretty well as it is (and more than most of my smarter and better qualified peers - go figure).

The number is never enough. If you are truly brilliant, talented and work hard, you will be paid.
