I'm currently using Monster.co.uk and browse the Guardian recruitment site. Which sites do people find to be the best/most comprehensive?

Job sector I'm looking in would be Marketing/Events/Media in the Berkshire/Surrey areas. Would a local recruitment site be better? I tried berkshirelocaljobs.co.uk but it seemed to be a bit thin on the ground and had more sponsored ads than anything else.

Suggestions?

I would stick with Monster, Jobsite and apply for ads placed on Reed.

That should do the trick!

i'm using jobrapido and cvlibrary

having fired about a billion applications off in the past few weeks i have come to the conclusion that 99% of recruitment consultants only got into it after they were fired from their job selling mobile phones. i doubt the quality will differ between sites.

My brother just started with Euro Carparts and he says they are recruiting non-stop because they are growing so fast. People I talk to seem to love 'em or hate 'em but its worth a look.

There all much of muchness IMHO. Some main ones:

Total Jobs
CV Library
Monster
Jobsite
Telegraph
cw jobs
jobserve

Alot depends what sector in really, the above are fairly generic and should suit you fine, I'm not aware which sites are specific to your sector (Im sure there are some out there?.

Local adds are good if there are jobs about (less candidates view these jobs so less competiton) however becasue of this there are less jobs about. Also try local papers etc But national sites are the best really.

Try and apply for direct jobs where ever possible. Most recruiter listed jobs are fake, just there to draw you in so they get more candidates on their books, should they pull a job, and to fleece you for leads "oh how are you finding the market, where have you been interviewing etc"

Good luck

I've been applying with Reed mainly, had a couple of knock backs and some no replies but no joy yet.

Hmmm Reed, where shall I start.
Would I like to work for the police on a temp basis? yes I would, takes three weeks to get vetted through Reed. Two weeks later I get a call from Reed, would I like to work for the police on a temping basis? Then I will need to be vetted.....I give up!

Jobcentre plus

Loads of jobs on there that are direct to the employer i.e. cut out the middle man

Make sure you visit as many local agents too, imagine the amount of CVs online places get, meeting people face to face will make them more interested in placing you

Monster seems to be regularly used by recruiters who can't read, they seem to pick up on a single keyword in your CV and phone up to see if you're interested jobs that if they'd read the CV they'd know you're not suitable for.

I've had the most success with CV library and Jobsite, but as others have said it does depend on the sector. Well worth making a slight tweak to your profile every month or so as many recruiters are set up to see when they've been updated, so they'll have another look at your CV, I've had a couple of inquireries like that.

I put my CV on Monster at the weekend. First thing this morning, I get a call from a local recruiter wanting to book me for an interview. I'm going through to see them in the morning but I've told them that I wont be moving unless the deal is exactly the right one for me. I'm not in desperate need for work but would like a career change.
