Is EDC just a gimmick on a E9x M3?
Discussion
I really had to have EDC when looking to buy my M3 as early road tests recommended it & I have got it with the manual gearbox, but I notice the M3 GTS & CRT haven't got it so do we think its really worth the extra outlay if you were buying new or surely if it was that good wouldn't the high end M3's have it?
Just your thoughts please

I had it in mine. It was quite fun playing around with the settings for a while, then I just left it in "Normal" mode for 99% of the time. Apparently the passive setup is very well judged.
+ 1. You can justify the expense by using the harder settings at a race track, or on fast country hoonsMermaid said:

Not really road cars, are they? Low volume race cars registered for road use almost. AFAIK, none of the sporting Porsche have EDC, but have a higher setting dampers option.Just your thoughts please

If you compare a Non-EDC to an EDC M3 then you'll find that they both are awesome. Where the EDC comes into its own is giving a softer ride when you don't want to go nuts! A non-EDC car is set up for a hard ride all of the time. Having EDC allows you to vary the ride between soft and hard. I've driven both and preferred being able to go softer for normal road use, especially on our appalling "post-snow" potholed roads!
I just tend to leave it in comfort most of the time & I use the M button to flick it into its hardest setting linked to the other harder settings & you really feel the car change character, as most say its a brilliant Jekyll & hyde car, great fun when you want it to be or comfy & sedate if not.
I am hoping its a worthwhile option as I have spec'd it but not actually test driven one yet. I did try but the snow put a stop to my test drive that I drove over 300 miles for.
I had a mail from my dealer yesterday to say my car is now in the UK and I can pick it up on the 9th of March so I will let you know my thoughts on it then

Excellent stuff you must be well excited, enjoy collecting it & I look forward to your thoughts on it, I will admit I am pleased mine has EDC but the whole car is a great package anyway. I'm finding it extremely useful, the car can transform from one thing to another very quickly depending on whether you have passengers to think about or are out for a drive on your own. For me it's a must have but the factory setting on non EDC cars is probably pretty well judged to be fair.

Yes it had adjustable dampers from what I have read, not sure how similar it is to EDC though.
It was called EDC, introduced in 1987.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
