F10 M5 purchase query
Discussion
Hi,
I am going to be heading down to view an F10 M5 at a main dealer and I was wondering what sort of negotiation room on price I should expect to be able to get.
The cars on at £36,500, its a 14 plate with about 19k miles.
I will be buying cash and have no part exchange but haven't ever bought second hand from a dealer and figure theres likely to be some room to get the price down but not sure how much and don't want to just take the Michael .
Advice much appreciated
Thanks
Ed

Seems quite a punchy price for a 14 plate of it’s not a CP, the key is how much commitment you show them. If you’re willing to buy then and there you can drive a fairly good deal but it will depend on their monthly targets etc. Think about extras they can throw in like servicing, extended warranty, gap insurance as they have lots more room with this stuff.
Hi it’s black in and out and here’s the specs:

Pretty good spec. I would push them on price, and when there is no more there, ask for extended warranty/service plan or alternatively any M performance parts (at cost) that might take your fancy.20" 343M light Double-spoke alloy wheels / Reversing Assist camera / Bootlid operation. powered / M Multi-function seats. front / Loudspeaker system - harman/kardon surround sound / Speed limit display / Piano Black - BMW Indivudual Trim / Comfort Access / Split-folding rear seats / Lumbar support. driver and front passenger / Surround-view / 12V power sockets / M rear spoiler
To give you some idea of price I have just part exchanged my F10 M5 for £34,000 at a main dealer and was 15 plate with 10k on the clock and with a good spec but I did get £4k off a used M6 Gran coupe I bought.
I would think you should be aiming for £3k off with no part exchange. They normally offer you a small discount first £400-500 to see your reaction but dig your heals in.

Sounds expensive. I didn't pay a huge amount more than that for a 66 plate with Comp Pack from a main dealer. Similar miles, has a service pack.I am going to be heading down to view an F10 M5 at a main dealer and I was wondering what sort of negotiation room on price I should expect to be able to get.

Hi all,
Thanks for the advice so far, seen the car now and it looked tidy. Well see what happens with the negotiation the next few days.
Can I ask if someone can confirm that there no physical service book with the car? I was shown the key read history and told there was no book as I wanted to check it had the all important running in service.
Thanks again

Cool.
If you speak to the dealer they can give you a printout of the service history, and it should all be available from within the i-drive.

Yeah I couldn’t see the whole history in the idrive menu there was just one page visible but they printed it out off the key history. I did think it was a bit odd that it was just one page in I drive, equally it’s possible I didn’t know how to navigate the menu properly If you speak to the dealer they can give you a printout of the service history, and it should all be available from within the i-drive.

It's low mileage and a fairly well specced car so they will play on that a lot. However no CP is something you can use to your advantage, let them think that's your preferred option though you might consider a non CP car if the price is right. Also let them know it's not your preferred colour as well. (even if it is). If it hasn't been on the market long then I suspect there is not a lot they will give you at the moment, some of the cars on AUC site have been there for 8-12 weeks. Offer around 34k and walk, saying you still looking and then you can always go back a day or two later. I would think that the best you might get would be 35k tbh, I wouldn't expect to pay more than 35,750 though. Always bid low and see their response. Hope that's of some help, based mainly on last years long search for the right car at the right price. (And many years experience of buying M5's). Be careful though, even with AUC BMW main dealers there are sadly some dodgy cars out there at dodgy dealers.
Thanks JMdoc, basically I’ve done what you said. I’ve said I would buy it for 34k and an extra years warranty. He told me there was only a £100 off he could offer me and I walked but it wasn’t the guy I had been dealing with so we’ll see what happens when he calls me today.
I’ve tried to make sure the car is as it should be, certainly looked and felt that way. Seems to have had its running in and next service and not much else other than oil top up at 4000 miles and I spoke to an idependant service dept who told me that all as expected...don’t think there’s much else I can do. I figure they can’t sell it as AUC if it’s not appropriate for the warranty
