Very interesting E30M3SE.

So, Ben, to sum things up. For the last few pages of this forum you have been on here trying to educate the masses on how to buy E30 M3's.

In your opinion us normal plebs are all paying too much because you are pert of a secret underworld of select buyers and sellers who have access to cheap cars that never hit the open market. After numerous requests to publish photos of said cars you decline.

In now turns out that you are buying cars with very dubious histories that have been written off.......I wonder why they are not hitting the open market.

Thanks for the wise words on how to purchase an E30 M3 but I think I will pass on your advice.

To my mind a Cecotto is just a 215bhp car with a few cosmetic touches, it's a little bit more special than a regular 215bhp car, but not much.

Here we have a Cecotto that has been written off by an insurance company due to an accident that will be listed as Cat C , has recent corrosion issues, and has a mileage of circa 117,000.

There is no way I would give close to £40,000 for that particular car.

After all your talk Ben about cars being overpriced, you think this is good value? Are you serious?
I don't think It's cheap at all. But I know if the car was in auction it will fetch a lot more.

This also shows that there are very few UK cars that aren't known.

Anyway, how does your car compare to this Ben? I'm assuming it's in better condition, which certainly makes it a steal at circa £25k.

Despite the accident history, it appears to have been rebuilt to a good standard. I'm not convinced it would have made more at auction, as its marker would have had to be declared and would certainly influence bidding.

It would appear the recently advertised resto' project car has sold.

I'm not comparing this car to mine all I'm trying to say is that you can buy a car without it being advertised on the Internet and for a cheaper price then the online market for eg ph, carandclassic and auctions.

Sure, if you happen to bump into someone who's a) got a car they want to sell and b) isn't interested in getting the best price available. I've yet to see evidence of either though.

We're going round in circles here people

Best way to deal with trolls is just to ignore them and move on. They soon get bored and move on too.

Back on topic... Still hunting for one myself. Have a question:

What would people suggest should be the difference in price between an original UK car and, for arguments sake, an identical car freshly imported from Germany?

Pity the small saving that used to be possible by importing has been wiped by the weak GBP.

I'm just curious to understand how cars which are already here should be valued in comparison to their equivalent UK-origin brothers?

Thanks in advance

There was a car sold not long ago for 27k you said earlier on in the post. You know how much he paid for it and he sold it for 27k and that car was not advertised when S baught it. Then the car which was on the market last week for 24k. The first owner as I was advised baught it for peanuts which was also not advertised. That's just 2 I'm telling you of. The list can carry on. You know better.

Maybe 10% but it's difficult to tell as the UK cars are typically higher mileage whereas imported cars often have lower mileage. Prices aside, I guess a UK car with no stories and a cast iron service history will sell more quickly.....

Haven't we seen this one before, definitely remember that pic? It's odd how many cars get advertised at daft prices then disappear only to reappear 6 months later.

Hi Ben, that's very kind of you. I'm seeking a 1990 / early 1991 registered Coupe in Sterling silver / grey. I would also consider a 325i. Flexible on mileage, originality and condition. Would prefer a non-fictional example.

That sounds about right to me. As you say, with original UK cars it's easier to discover unwanted history. I was tempted by the Japanese import that went through auction recently. It was cheap, but the thought of not having a clue what anything in the (sparse) file means put me off!

The both need work yes but that is not the question I asked you. Let me ask you again.

The guy who who sold it for 27k. How much did he pay for the car when he baught it? Was the car advertised when he baught it?

Same again for the 24k. How much did the initial owner buy it for? Not the guy who advertised it on eBay. The guy before him. Was the car advertised when he baught it?

I hope this will answer everything mark.
These are only the cars you mentioned on the thread.
