E61 Clutch Judder repair result (at last)

Sounds more like a worn clutch mate if its slipping between gears. Sorry to disappoint you. The judder thing should in theory only happen when pulling away, not when shifting at redline. Given your mods, mapping etc you'll be hard pushed to get a dealer contribution in my opinion, buy you can always try.

Yeah, normally a clutch failure is more dramatic if its simply worn. In that case then, try your hand with the dealer and see what they say. You've got all the info you need here.

Once it's up to temp and in M sport mode, I can give it beans and it changes gear so smoothly and quickly like it should do but on cold start it is bunny hopping.

No, that's nothing to worry about. That's just the engine warming up. I always leave the car to run for 60 seconds or so (until idle speed reduces) before pulling away. Allows the SMG pump to pressurise fully and engine oil to circulate.

All I can suggest is that you keep pushing them mate. Get a thorough understanding of the clutch mechanism, explain it to the tech and press it until it sinks in. I took photos of other examples with me to the dealer and I think it helped. Worst case scenario, phone another dealer (one who might actually be able to help, maybe mine) and ask if thier master tech (Barry is master tech at my local) would mind viewing the car at its current location.

I always supply couple of crates of beer for the workshop after the warranty work has been done, but never before or as an 'incentive'. Might be worth a shot though.

No further advice from me other than to peruse the offer from my tech in Hampshire. Do you need the box refitted to have it transported down south? Surely its just a 'winch on to truck' job. Hampshire won't have to strip it again if its already done. I'm sure you're gonna get a good outcome mate and the warranty should reimburse you the money from your current dealer if its proven to be a dry bearing.

Thats not good news mate. Seems to me to be a clear cut case of the dealership having a very anti-customer-opinion attitude. My local dealer is exactly the same. They don't like to be told what's wrong with the car and go out of their way to disprove your argument, even if you are right. This is why I drive to Southampton now for all my repair and service works. Top blokes there and very nice biscuits and cakes in the waiting area.

Did your indy have the software to do a full clutch Position sensor reset? Needs to be done with a new clutch or it'll wear really quickly. Glad its sorted mate, just a shame the result wasnt as hoped.

Nope, still as smooth as when it was fitted. Only time its rough is when its my own fault.

Just so you know, that reset doesnt do the SMG box, it resets the diff data and re-records the rolling radius's of the rear tyres. As the diff is active it needs to know these things so it knows how to react in low grip conditions.
