F10 M5 - service schedule before hand back (contract hire)
Discussion
Inspection is done. Rather bizarrely two different contractors turn up independently to inspect the car and both appear to check pretty much the same thing (except one also takes a video).
I was alarmed to have a significant windscreen crack pointed out to me in the top left corner (passenger side) and having read PH horror stories about replacement windows for M5s, I feared outrageous costs for damage. Thankfully both inspectors decided as it was not visible from the driver's seat they would not note it. Phew.
The only item of note was a minor scratch to one wheel for which they charge £26. I consider that a good result.
They did note, however, that the M series running in service is "missing" (obviously there is no physical stamp but there will be an electronic record somewhere) and that the service history is also missing. "BMW FS to review and advise" is their note on the report. I did query whether if BMWFS view the report on 1 March that they would then deem me to be overdue but they assured me that today was the recorded handover date and that should not be an issue.

There's no service booklet. It's all electronic nowadays.
That. The running in service will be listed in the iDrive as all electronic nowadays. The running in service & my first regular service are both listed & it even details what else was done such as the microfilter being replaced.I was told I would be charged pro rata at the same rate for any time beyond the end of the agreement. It wasn't clear to me how long they would allow this to go on for but previous conversations with the finance guy at the dealership suggested they would let me extend by 3 to 6 months. So perhaps there are no hard and fast rules.

This idrive servicing book has been a pain in the Arse for me. Reason being when hey read he key fob they told me it's never had micro filter or fuel filter when it should have had it at least once.... I then produced he invoiced and the paper copy service book. This caused them to have an issue "computer says no" to which I replied "are you telling me that the other dealer who has stamped he service book and charged me accordingly on the invoice never carried out any work?" "Oh of course not if it's an OEM dealer which it was then it's certainly been done and key fob/idrive somehow is wrong - note there is no way they can add in the missing services in the idrive"
So imagine you didn't have the hard copy service book and say dog/kids destroyd your invoice and this issue happened to your vehicle?

Fair point. For both my services i checked the computer before leaving the dealers to check the service was logged correctly (including the micro filter) so had it not been i'd have been back in to get it sorted.Reason being when hey read he key fob they told me it's never had micro filter or fuel filter when it should have had it at least once.... Saying that they forgot to reset the CBS when i had read pads replaced last year so that needed a word & since then i've used an Indy for such things.
Hi Guys,
I am due to hand back my M5 in March, however I have just put a deposit down on a Cayenne Turbo (due to a very good deal). Having spoken to BMW Financial Services, I think I have to pay the full remaining payments on the M5, however the guy on the phone wasn't the sharpest tool in the box and couldn't seem to understand the question I asked to determine if I could return the car to BMW earlier than March (to avoid paying as much insurance etc), even if I made the last 3 payments when they were due e.g. hand the car back in January, but continue to make the monthly payments until February (with last payment due early Feb).
Do you know if I can do this, and if so, how I go about setting it up?
Will it be BMW dealership I leased through that I return the car to, or will generic BMW? And will BMW come to me to inspect, or do I take it to them?
Cheers.

If you're on a PCP and you've paid more than HALF THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAYABLE under the agreement you can simply toss them the keys with no further payments at any time under s99 of the Consumer Credit Act.I am due to hand back my M5 in March, however I have just put a deposit down on a Cayenne Turbo (due to a very good deal). Google for "Voluntary Termination".

It is a lease, not a PCP. Thanks for the reply though.Google for "Voluntary Termination".

Yes you can and I did exactly that,I am due to hand back my M5 in March, however I have just put a deposit down on a Cayenne Turbo (due to a very good deal). In short (this may not be with every lease provider but most and certainly BMW) you can return the car at any point during the lease and you are liable for:
All outstanding payments due to the end of the lease
Any over mileage which is calculated pro-rata on the day you ask for a settlement to the end of the term. I won't insult your intelligence however for those unaware BMW will ask for the current mileage, divide it by the length of term so far and multiply by the full term - you are then either charged over mileage or there's no additional charge.
You are liable or for any servicing overdue and not carried out and that may also have an additional financial penalty in the case of an M car if the value is affected. If the service schedule is up to date and the idrive shows as such you have no worries.
Once and only when you pay the settlement figure you arrange a collection date, that is a date if your choice.
The collection company arrive and go over the car with a fine tooth-comb measuring paint on all panels and details that are frankly mind boggling!
Not difficult but worth ensuring you comply and also worth reflecting on my story on either this or another thread where BMW tried to charge me another month following collection etc. where they were suggesting I owed them money due to mileage.
I didn't, I got a full apology and I've moved on.
Please accept spelling or any other errors, this was written on an iPhone
If I can be of any other help please pm me your mobile and I'll call

Thanks for the reply. So regarding the additional mileage, even though they expect you to pay what is left on the full term of the lease, they still calculate mileage pro-rata? So for example, if I was allowed to do 30k miles up to middle of March (for full 36 month term), but handed it back with 28k miles by middle December, I would have to pay all of the remaining monthly payments i.e. including January and Feb), plus an additional mileage charge (as 28k miles in 33 months is > 30k miles over 36 months pro rata)?
This would mean you are doing under the allowed mileage allowance for the original 36 month term (and returning car early), but are having to pay for the full 36 month term, plus an additional mileage charge?

You would be billed for about 550 miles at whatever rate your contract says per mile
Pro-rata you're over that's the point.
You could argue but I think you'll lose
Edited to add your mileage is also noted at handover and if you've gone further over.......kerrrrrr ching
When they collected mine the chap must have taken 50 photos, apparently they are also used for the auction house.
