two and a half years ago I test drove an M4 and then back to back an F10 M5. Both were blistering fast up the M40 and on the A road but like the Op I didn't gel with the M4 at all. Harsh was overiding impression on both ride and noise.

If wafting is your pleasure forget the clumsey looking 8 and do what I did and get an M6GC. Save loads on depreciation (someone else has already swallowed that for you), best looking car BMW have made and full of toys and comfort. With what you save you can then keep the Chimsmile

This could be you

Two items I had and would recommend are High Beam Assist and Carbon Fibre Pack, which in combination with full leather, looks classy. I can’t say I recognise the problems referred to. If you are waiting for the next one, I’d be a little worried what the next M4 might look like, and for that matter be powered by.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find the 8 a bit heavy, and a sort of wannabe Mustang with dated 6 series details.

If you are going for an M6 GC, check it has the rear wheel steer. Maybe it’s standard on that model, without it the 6 GC is basically undriveable.

I thought it was confirmed to be the S58 engine, quite a while ago?

Can't be anything else given that it's in the X3M, etc, can it?

Agree regarding the looks though.

Yes - the Gran Coupe is a big long car, masked by its good looks. Without adaptive suspension (rear wheel steering) it is unbelievably clumsy, bad handling and hard on tyres. Great motorway cruiser though.

Possibly the wrong place to comment, but the latest pics of the new M4 show the enormous front grille in all its glory. I'm sure that with the new straight six engine, it will be a fantastic machine, but that front end is going to take a bit of getting used to. I had fears that it might be a hybrid drive or similar, but apparently not. So that's good news!
