I dont think we are going to agree but regardless i think people who buy these cars second hand should be under no illusions of costs firstly because even from independents the parts aren't cheap and secondly warranty prices are ridiculous not to mention the excess.
I've bought, ran and sold enough cars to know you loose money and I've mentioned depreciation because i think anyone buying one should know that they are going to keep dropping faster than similar cars out there unless its csl version.
If i were to buy one again it would have to be an AUC car and that's what i would recommend to anyone here simply because you can make sure all the expensive stuff is sorted,it may cost more but in my experience its worth it for piece of mind

I agree with deutscher, even I manage 22 mpg with my heavy right foot! I would say my mpg averages 22-30 mpg depending on the journey and my mood But I think that's reasonable for a 343 bhp car!

The only other thing that hasn't been mentioned is the 1200 mile service. It's vital this has been completed to schedule (which is < 1700 miles) otherwise you will run into all sorts of problems with any manufacturers or AUC warranty, and even outside warranty this will no doubt affect the saleability of the car.

Like someone else said, there is plenty of advice available by searching the BM3W.co.uk E46 M3 forum.

I just paid well under 18 for a nice 51 plate with fsh and even a bit of warranty left. For the money, I can't think of a car that could come close
