I think it would be a folly to drop out of the queue. The truth is, even if it handles like a dog, BMW will sell it by the bucketload to people who just want the best small BMW. The E90 has got good reviews, the E92 335i great reviews, and BMW haven't made a bad engine for an M power car. Famous last words, but what can possibly go wrong?

As a side note I remember I was 17 when the E46 M3 came out, and I feel as much desire for this one as I did for the last one.

I'd be just as happy putting my money down on the next revision of the 911.

I'm second in the Q at my local dealer and have had my deposit down for about 2 years.... Personally, i hope mine 'arrives' Jan'08 or to Mar'08 to fit in with the allocation of the new plates - Funny as it sounds, people still seem to deem this as important when it comes to resale. Not so important 5 yrs on but its suprising how important it has been when selling on 'nearly new' cars in the past.

Although i'll probably keep the car less than a year, i've been looking fwd to this M3 for a long time. Again, it may be a case of famous-last-words but i honestly can't see BMW offering us anything less than perfection.

On another note, the next thing to think about is colour.... i've seen a mock up of one in WHITE knocking around on this forum and must admit to being rather taken by that. As we all know, white seems to be making a big comeback (see GT3's, M5 Ring Taxi's, Lambo's, etc)and if i have the bottle i might just plum for that. However, this might go against me when i've had my fun and chose to move it on..... The safe bet would be grey or black i suppose?

Spec wise, it gotta be big wheels (whether they affect the handling or not!), black leather (safe), Sat-nav and blue tooth.......... all the options everyone expects!

two points,

firstly BMW only take refundable deposits (unlike some other marques!) so your money is safe,

secondly, I have had a deposit down for along time and am not so sure now, so do I get my money back or wait and see...

Well I've been phoning around all morning, and found somewhere with a shorter queue and put a deposit down there too. So I'm now second in line for a coupe order...

Hmmm....I think it's all changed, this speculation over new cars. The latest example of it not being lucrative was the AMV8...loads of speculators bought them...but I got offered one for launch day by Aston in Reading without having to look too hard and I nearly went for i on the basis that everyone was expecting the waiting lists to be huge and therefore the residuals sound for a year or so. I have heard alot of speculators got stung when AM started ramping up production to fulfill all the orders. Look at the values now...shocking given they're only 9 months to a year old. Trading one in you'd struggle to get £65000 on a car you probably spent £90K on when new. And yet before it was launched there were all manner of cars being advertised at £10K above list....I wonder if many of them actually sold....and how anyone who bought one at a premium feels about it now?!

There's an AMV8 sitting outside; the owner reckon he's lost about £10k on it in 4 months.

Lets face it...you always lose a shed load on new cars. My Z4M Coupe will shed all the options (which I got free anyway!), all the VAT and then some....dealer would probably offer me £32K on it the minute I drive it away, regardless of the fact that I paid just under £41K for it new and that it's RRP with all options is circa £46K.

It's a fact of life for those of us that like new metal. You pays ya money and you bend over.
