Stupid... just plain stupid. Making a car this good, shouldn't be allowed. evil

I scared myself silly yesterday. Went for a late afternoon hoon on Hampshire's finest roads and ended up in bloody West Sussex!
Simply awesome!

I gave the 'M' button a proper workout, I can't believe how quick this car is. The poise, stability and sure footedness is staggering. At full crack (red-lining) the V10 sounds simply fantastic.
The closest thing I can relate the acceleration to , is hyper space in the Millennium Falcon. The trees were warping past me like stars being sucked into a black hole!
I'm sure I arrived 2 minutes before I left ?

All this and it has 4 seat practicality and usability. Without doubt the finest 'Complete' car I've ever owned.

All this afer coming from 2 Tvr's, 2 BMW's and 4 Aston Martin's, V8 and V12 !!!!
I trust we'll be seeing it stickered up @ LM shortly? They are fantastic cars, I remember going for a drive in '06 being tailed by a Vanquish & 996Turbo.... the M5 gapped them both when we hit the A120 yikes 0-100mph is 'quite good'.... the way it just carries on after 100mph is unbelievable, it just feels like its never going to run out of grunt.

Have you tried DSC off yet? evilwink One of the easiest drift cars around, mega fun thumbup

I was thinking about these yesterday.

I doubt there is more of a complete car out there. It looks more butch and much less flash than the M6 and costs less. Has a terrific V10 engine and is RWD. In terms of a super saloon, there is nothing to match it and I even reckon an F430 would be hard pushed to get past one.

My only real question is, are the brakes as bad as everyone (the media) says?
A Maser Quattroporte would be a cool choice, cooler car and nicer sounding.
M6 is the one to have though, sod the 4 doors much more desirable package.
The Brakes are very good, the media are spoiled by Porsche.
The Maserati is slow (ignore Evo's ridiculous track result), badly put together and has a dashboard from a 1980s S Class.

The M6 is great, but the M5 is somehow cooler, doing the same thing in a four door saloon.

The brakes are fine 98% of the time on road. The otehr 2% of the time, they are terrible. It doesn't take too many hard braking events to have the pedal travel start to lengthen.
Since when was Dame Edna cool?

The Maser is still a good choice ,hand crafted, elegant and exotic which is what you want over 50k.

The thing i cant stand with M5s is when all that weight finally catches up and you wish it was a half ton lighter.
Unfortunately the M engineers can only take the sporty feeling so far.

Further than what, your tallent?wink

The M5 has to be the most balanced and friendly car beyond the limit I've ever experienced. That goes for all itterations.

I didnt say it wasnt balanced nor friendly, i merely stated it was far too heavy for its stated purpose.

It takes Talent to know these things.

Surely its purpose is to be the fastest, most sporting version of a mid range executive saloon? I dont know of any executive saloons that could be called light.

OK then.

Take this car to a track and after 3 laps what will cause the brakes to overheat, the tyres to overheat and a car that weighs half as much with half the power sit on its fat arse all day long.

nono

TALENT or lack thereof.

It's a heavy car alright, but Boulder sir, I fear you are out of your depth here. The M5 is as deft as you could ever wish for in a road bound scenario. It is not a track car per se, so why compare?

Drive one, then report your findings thumbup

To be fair, the M5 is not intended primarily as a track car. Equally your statement would be true of most road cars if driven @ 10/10ths on track

Hang on, hang on: yet the QP is what, a jay cloth?

Your inconsistency undermines your position on this subject.

A 964RS is lardy next to an SR3.

The irrelevance of your illustrations is stupefying; why in the name of Watt Tyler would you criticise a saloon car for it's on track limitations?

This is yet more of the same old asinine jibber jabber which so often plagues the arguments of the blinkerati.

I can't believe presumably self proclaimed motoring enthusiasts can be so restricted in their appreciations.

TALENT,is that a perminant stutter you have?

Sports cars aint supposed to be heavy, and a sports car is whats stated in the M5 brochure.

Dont take offence to facts.

Or so you would believe, although with your ammount of posts you are probably deluded.

Another fact to suck on.
