Cheers! Gone for white. Black hides all the vents and bulges which are part of the cars 'presence' I think and although I suspect the orange colour WILL look good I just couldn't pluck up courage without seeing it. White is a good 'motorsport' colour and will look cool dirty too.

Excellent, nice to see someone putting money where their mouth is. Please post pics and driving impressions when you get it. Can't really go wrong with white these days but I'd probably have gone for black for the exact opposite of the reason you state. The arches are good but some of those vents aren't really very cohesive and could do with a bit of hiding IMO.Will see what they look like when it arrives but may get the wheels changed to a grey/graphite colour.

Go jaffa, mate.It'll appeal massively to enthusiasts - rather like a GT3RS!

I agree spec what you want rather than opting for the 'safe resale colour' option I actually like the VO anyway (used to have a Vista Orange RS2000 many, many, many years ago )
Also VO is the only one of the 3 colours that is unique to the 1M and could be considered a 'real' M colour, which is why I suspect, it maybe more sort after later on.
The Sapphire Black and Alpine White both being just standard 1 series colours.

Good point - and how I'm now thinking. However RS colour is spot on and the BMW colour - at least in pics - seems to have some of that horrid 60s 'Gold' hue to it. Dealer is trying to find where I can look at one in the metal.It'll appeal massively to enthusiasts - rather like a GT3RS!

Thanks for the insult pal. You've driven one I assume. With a mild (and cheap) tweak to near 400bhp I'll have a small, agile (for it's type) car that I suspect will be quicker than the current M3. It'll take me, g/f & luggage to the 'Ring and back in comfort, be great for doing the many miles learning the circuit - it'll even have loads of room for an instructor - that I intend to use it for and not be TOO disastrous should the worst happen. I suspect it'll be fun harying some bigger stuff at UK track days too.Each to his own eh?
As good as the 1 Series M promises to be, 45k is far over the odds of what a 1 series should be charged at - especially when the car itself is not that bespoke over a tuned up 135i.
45k buys a lot of car nowadays, especially in the used market (think GT3 or Turbo). Brand new, cars like a fully specced Golf R show how silly it is to spec a GOLF to over 40k, and the forthcoming RS3 will reiterate the point of a 40-50k hatchback. All in all, I can't help feel that manufacturers are milking Joe Public for all they can with new cars, promising throwbacks to heritage (cue E30 M3), but at silly prices.
The 1 series M makes the [probably] quicker and steadily appreciating CSL look like an absolute bargain at 25k, especially considering the true Motorsport efforts that went into the CSL's engineering.
All IMHO, and indeed, each to their own.

I'm buying new (just accept that) so compare new with new please. CSL? Don't make me laugh. That car was nearly £60k new wasn't it. Certainly I remember it was £10k more than the standard M3 at the time. So, on that basis, this cracking little 1 series is a serious bargain! Much less money than the CSL was umpteen years ago.

Nice one Pugsey ~ looking forward to seeing that 420bhp / 440lb-ft is simple and £3000 away ; you'll be quicker than E60 M5s let alone E9* M3s

E46 M3...... and some, as the new 1M is but a mere fraction off the pace of a E92 M3 around the 'Ring And I reckon the 340hp figure is an underestimate anyway.
The N54 engines in the early 135i were a good 15hp+ above what BMW 'claimed' for them, so the 1M engine could easily be 350+.
Be interesting to see what the figures are when the first owners get them on a RR.

Absolutely. Already quicker - as standard - than E46 M3. My dealer tells me "it comes with strong brakes as standard". Don't think he could understand why I fell about laughing.Off for w/e now. Thanks for thoughts - and pics - re colours everyone. Almost decided to change to orange now.

Not really. With the mild tweaks I've mentioned I fully expect the car to be quicker than M3. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY smaller, lighter and therefore more FUN. I care not whether the M3 is perceived as the 'Daddy' and that I'll be seen as 'only' driving a 1 series. I'll be the one grinning from ear to ear.
