Hi guys. Newbie here..

I have to say phenomenal knowledge amongst you guys. I have been looking at the e30's you have been talking about, e.g mantis car, parkway specialists etc and would not have noticed some of the things you know about these cars..

I am looking for a well kept e30 - evo2 / sport evolution / ravaglia etc would be nice. Open to a standard e30 M3 whereby I would modify.. have a few cars I may p/x

Just wondering if anybody here can help at all?

Many thanks in advance
Drop me a mail through here please, I might be able to help.

Those brake disc back plates should be satin black, not zinc passivate plated.

Also, the under side should not be fully body coloured. It should be a beige underseal that has some body colour overspray.
Your totally correct, here is the chassis of my M3 from 1987 after a quick wash with degreaser, I'm basically restoring the whole chassis as there was areas of light surface rust under areas of the original beige stone chip, this has been fully cleaned out and Jotun epoxy applied over clean steel, would like to go with the same stone chip but black U-Pol Gravitex looks to be the choice of SC at the moment, also blasting the subframe and trailing arms then spraying with Jotun epoxy and any inner cavity areas will be Bilt Hamber S50'd

Diff, fuel tanks, brakes will all be restored then move onto the front end.

My car is totally standard from new so only using standard parts, no lowering springs, fancy bushes or braided hoses - keep it standard - keep it 1987!

That's been on the PH Classifieds for a week or 2. Seems a really good car!

"car has agreed value of £90K"

So I would guess the reserve/selling price is somewhere in the 70s?

Re the underseal, this is something I'll have to do on mine, when I do finally get around to the bodywork stage. Some of the popular coatings seem quite different to the factory stuff, which seems much thicker and more rubberised, the newer stuff being thinner and rock hard.
Can you get anything as per the original in beige ?

I think 3M do a similar colour but it's a lot more expensive than the U-Pol, money aside I think the U-Pol looks to give a good hard'ish rubbery finish and not sticky and messy like underseal waxes, think you can get 6 x 1 litre bottles + a spray nozzle that fits the bottles for about £55 which seems very reasonable to me. Also think it comes in grey and white but I'll be happy with the black.

Talking of waxes like waxoyl my M3 has been treated at some point in the past, hopefully it done its job of stopping further corrosion but it's a mess to get off and looks ugly, the only thing I find that really moves it is petrol but not keen on laying under a car soaking myself in unleaded!

Could you put it on a spit, flip it and then try the dry ice method people use on the inside stuff?

I don't envy you. I did the same task with a heat gun, scraper and when the worst was off, green scouring pads and thinners. Never again.

Can you not take it and have the underside media blasted? Or possibly hire the kit and do it yourself?

The chassis is really not at all bad, just a few patches here and there, I have spent a lot of hours inspecting and removing any areas of surface rust and then painting with Jotun 87, 90% of it is all solid so going to leave it and Gravitex over the top but only when the Waxoyl is removed which comes off okay with petrol.

Subframe, trailing arms and some other bits are off to the media blaster, once done they are going to spray it with etching primer to stop the immediate onset of rust, then I'm going to spray them with Jotun 87 and the insides with BH S50..

Last half of this video is quiet interesting re the underseal and what can be hidden under there.

Granted this is not a minter by all accounts.

But does this hint that asking daft prices JUST because its an E30M3 is going to go away. Really good cars will always be worth it of course, but as we all know most cars are not in that category.

Just in PH Classifieds, The Malton car, the KGF car, The Nick Johnson car, Parkway car (now POA which is 135k btw) Mantis Cars, The ridiculous priced motorhub car, Hexagons cab, 4Star Classics.

All of them have been for sale for months. And haven't sold. Market correction?

Unsold at £54,100.

Never done agreed value insurance. Is there anything to stop you insuring a £50K car for £90K? Would the insurer care,as long as you pay the premium?
